Ok so I bout a Case 087PE on the bay. This is a great knife. Full blades, good size, great looking, etc...Sadly the back spring for the main blade is weak, so weak there is no snap :( I wrote Case and they said since it is a discontinued pattern the most they could do would be replace it with something newer. I don't want that. Can I get the spring back into shape? Make it snap? It is a great knife that would make a great carry and I don't want to waste it. Thanks for the help all.

I don't believe there is any way to make a weak spring "springier" without heat treating it. It is possible to replace a backspring. It might cost more than the knife cost but any knifemaker with experience at slipjoints should be able to do it.

More than likely, there is a crack in the spring at the pin hole. If so, I can make a new spring. If not, I can re temper it. See my web site: www.billdeshivs.com for details.
