Can you see the difference between S30V & BG-42?

If you had two Sebenzas in front of you, and one was S30V, the other was BG-42, could you see the difference? If so, how?

I have a Mnandi in s30v and a wood inlay in BG 42. Looked at the blades carefully side by side and couldn't tell the difference. I've heard that s30v doesn't take as good a polish as BG-42 but I couldn't tell the difference. Mind you I didn't spend hours comparing the two but only a couple minutes in my office under flourescent lighting. The only way I could tell was because the birth certificate that came with the mnandi says so. The blade on the mnandi is thinner than on the small Sebenza but I think that is because it is designed to be a more "gentlemenly" knife than the sebenza. I don't have an s30v Seb but I may get one some day.  :D

I have two small Sebbies in BG42 and a large in S30V, and, so far as appearances go, can't really see any difference.

The guarantee card would give you the information but, since your question was if you just had the knives side by side - no, you can't tell any difference. You would need to disassemble the knife - on the blade, near the pivot, every S30V blade has a small 'S' engraved.

Just had to get that in. Now I know, as bad as my eyes are, that I am not the only one to be able to tell the difference! The BG42 leather inlaid Classic and the wood inlaid Classics in S30V do have a slight difference in my eyes. The BG42 does have a higher polish than the S30V. Now granted I have gone at the BG42 with "Mothers Polish" and that indeed could make a difference! Course I am going over the S30V with some Mothers also.

Don't know about the stonewashed finish though.
