Can you soak sheep horn in Acetone?

Purchased some sheep horn scales at Blade last year that are heavy coated with some type of oily coating. Have soaked in Dawn with limited results. What's best to clean? I have used Acetone on old wood gun grips, but not knowing was hesitate to use on horn. Oily film has got to go. Can I soak in Acetone?

I don't know really, try denatured alcohol..

they may have oiled them so they didn't dry out and crack. Not familiar with horn scales but this seems plausible

Sheep horn shrinks and moves. It should be secured with mechanical fasteners.

Yes, you can soak it in acetone.
