I've found a few. I assume either (1) the websites are out of date or (2) the vendors have old stock.

I understand Busse will strip blades for a fee if you don't like the coating. Is that true for discontinued models as well?

I'd be surprised if any of the on-line dealers still had Basic 5's in stock. If they do they may be priced so high that it is not cost-effective to buy them.

Don't quote me on this but I think the shop will refinish the blade for $65. If it's a Busse they will take care of you, no matter if it is new, used or discontinued.

If I'm wrong on the price someone chime in.

Yeah 65.00 even for the Basic series, that's what I
was quoted a few weeks ago.

Hmmm, have you looked on Ebay lately?
:D

There's a brand new basic 5 on auction now (ends 06/26).

I think the Rats are all that are left the basic 5 is by far my favorite basic.

NDS only has the Basic #3 in stock. Discount Knives is out of stock but say they can get a Basic #5 "in a few days". Their site says the price is "Approximately 25% off retail" and it shows the retail price as $178. I told Discount Knives the next best online price I have found is $155 (at Knives Online) so if Discount Knives will sell me one at $133.50 (75% of $178) then they have a sale. Discount knives also has some great prices on Marbles assuming their site is up-to-date and they still have them in stock. I sent Knives Online an e-mail asking if they have the Basic #5 in stock, but they have not yet responded.

I found these leads using Google. Hear are the SEARCH RESULTS

Oh . . . and yes I have checked Ebay. That knife is at $167.50 right now.

How can Discount knives promise a knife that's no longer made? If
I were you I wouldn't put much faith in the retail market. You
might want to check out Swamp Rat Knife works.
