Can you take apart an Endura?

I have both the Endura (ATS55) and the Endura II (AUS6). Is there any way to... say... replace the blade of one into the other? Can either Endura be taken apart and put back together again?

I love the knives, but I really wish the all-steel Endura II handle had a better knife steel. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Theory says yes, though it'd be a bit&#99h. You'de have to get the rivit out of both models(and the SS is polished right into the scales), lift the lock bar and insert the new blade(with the washers placed right), and re-rivit.

and remember that you'd void the warrenty on both, by taking them apart in the first place.

Even if you can take it apart and put it back, you might leave the spring out of position and weaken the lock.
Just don't think about taking it apart. Compressed air should be able to blast lint out pretty easily.

I wouldn't bother replacing the blades...what's wrong with Spyderco's AUS-6? I've had 2 steel delicas and both held an edge pretty well. I guess it all comes down to the heat treat.

Yes, you can...(A couple of small pry-bars work very well :p), but then you can forget about putting it back together correctly again.;).

Yes, I can. Joking aside I took apart a Delica to make a new blade for it. Switching one blade for another, however, might result in fitting problems. Also, the pins are very hard and not easy to drill out. I'd leave it as is.

There...The MAN has spoken...Now, enjoy your Endura as is!.:).

Er yeah-

I pretty much abandoned the quest when it became clear that there was no easy way to do it. I'm used to some items MADE to be taken apart, and thought there might be a "catch" ot "trick" to get the Endura apart.

But I haven't the tools (currently) and probably not the skill to do the things suggeted anyway. So I'll be fine with the two knives...

::SIGH:: I guess I'll just have to but MORE Spydies...

Mr Glesser: I'm surprised the blades aren't interchangable. What is the difference between them? they are identical sizes, shapes, and locking mechanisms... Can you tell me how the DO differ? I'm just really curious.

Thanks all!

Well, the ENdura II's blade is still the same length and shape as the original FRN Endura that had the integral plastic clip. When the FRN Endura was upgraded in '98 to ATS-55 (and now VG-10)the blade became a little bit longer and the shape changed a little, but the changes are subtle and best noted when the two versions' blades are placed side-by-side.

As Jim mentioned. In addition the lock geometryh is slightly different. Try to keep in mind that a difference of 2 thou (.002")makes a difference.

Yes, I see. I had just assumed that blade/tang specs would all be the same, and the only difference would be the steel. I figured doing that would reduce costs by allowing you to make fewer specific/special parts, etc.

So thanks for answering. I'll keep my two Enduras, and am looking forward to my new Mili!

Cheers all!
