I don't know what Bernard Levine knows about swords, but he might be your best bet on these forums. He has his own section that he is on pretty regularly.

To me, that looks like a naturally developed patina on the damascus, and it looks very aged. Who can really tell what aging is real and what is artificial through pictures though....I'll tell you who....Bernard.

As Mr. Pitts said typical stuff coming from China. $300.00 is way too much.

It's sad that China has people making these swords which have been given the appearance of being "old" and "valuable" when 99.9% of them are not. They look tempting even when advertised for $300 because in the mind of the collector it seems like a decent price for a piece of history. (But there is usually nothing historical about any of the pieces). If you are going to buy a piece made in China for $300 then buy from Hanwei, Dynasty Forge, Cheness, etc......at least you will get something functional and worthwhile for your money.
The world of fakes and replicas makes it so difficult to make purchases anymore.........

SUPER fake. Whoever's trying to take you for a $300 deserves a slap upside the head.

wow, educating. i didn't realize counterfeit antiquity was being pimped, so hard, these days. thanks. crazy, too, cause it had me fooled. looking at the pics, i was waiting to hear a positive reponse. it's disgustingly sad, yet impressive, at the same time.

I believe you can buy that exact sword on eBay for $1. Of course the shipping is $119. That should be the first clue, nothing worthwhile costs $1. Except of course, the BK buckdouble!

To be fair the individual trying to sell may be ignorant of what they have as well, and if so probably won't believe you.
