Folks,

I've never posted in here before, but lately I've become really interested in throwing. Since it's currently winter up here, I'm limited as to what I can do (except 1/2 turn throws with bamboo chopsticks)

However, I really, really want to learn to throw hatchets...but I'm a cheap b@st@rd! ha!

Here is a link to a really inexpensive tool which should work great to throw.....only $8.95CAN.

I figured I'd just hacksaw off the nail puller and sharpen the hammer end into a spike. Anybody have any thoughts about this?...here's the link if I didn't mess it up....

You can throw aything. The real question is will it hold up to the stresses of throwing. Its basically full tang with handle scales so the only problem I see is the scales cracking. Wrap it with some electrical tape and it should be fine. As for making the hammer into a spike. I think you are in for alot of work grinding it into a point. But if you want to go for it by all meas do so. If you do you might just straighten the nail puller and put some points on those. Sort of a hurlbat looking kinda thing. Well good luck.

thanks for the link i'm gonna buy 2 of 'em . I agree with kevin you CAN throw aything. I use the run of the mill cheapo throwing axes when at the renaissance fair .at home/work i throw anything hammers, estwing camp axes (kinda heavy but near indestructible) hatchets, homemade projectiles ect. as for the scales...... duck 'em

I've got access to 1/2" thick dense neoprene rubber...kind of like a thick doormat. I figured I'd replace the wooden ones when they busted.

As for the hammer, I should mention that it's actually formed by welding a small square to the main head (sort of looks like a "T" from a top view)

Let me know how they work.....

O.K. you get what you pay for. I got my crate openers/tool/hammer they are definitly made cheap the handles are dipped in wood putty and polyurathane coated . The steel is strong and with a slight modifacation they throw like any garden variety hatchet, maybe with a little more fine tuning they will balance out.what i did was cut off the claw where it starts to split and grind it to a chisel point. After a dozen throws the scales came flying off and were replaced with electical tape.I have 2 of them so one is gonna be my frankenstein. I think with a bit of heat and a lump hammer i can make it better only time will tell.I'll keep ya posted.
