Can you un-dye micarta?

Sorry if wrong section. I recently dyed light green micarta scales to dark green. It worked fine but didn't like it. So I dyed it black thinking it would just cover it.
Instead I've ended up with a very blackish green. Total failure...lol
So my question is whether there is any method to un-do the current dye job completely and start from scratch.

I’ve read here that some have had success using rit color remover

I would think it would need to be sanded down beyond the deepest pint of penetration. I may attempt this on an 85 I have. I’ll post back Kerr if I decide to.

Thank yo. I thought of that but am hesitant for fear of losing the crisscross pattern on the micarta. Of course maybe the dye color isn't so deep.

Not to hijack the thread, but since it's generally the same topic: How does one permanently dye micarta? I have a knife with black cancas micarta handles and natural micarta pins (I'd call them tobacco brown), the latter of which I'd like to dye black for a consistent look. I tried a "permanent" marker, but of course that rubs off fairly quickly.

If you dyed those pins black, I suspect you will get the same result I got -a very very dark brown, that is not exactly black.

One thought I had, and I searched the net for any info and came up empty is whether Acrylic Paint can be used on Micarta.
Dye is used on Micarta because it is water soluable and the Micarta absorbs it. Acrylic Paint is also water soluable.
If anyone has any experience would appreciate hearing about it.

I am going to try the Dye Color Remover by the weekend. If that succesfully removes the previous color (green) even if partially, I should be able
to dye it black after that.

Thx, Ken. I was wondering if there was a specific dye product/brand that is recommended?

I used Rit because everyone seemed to use it. Maybe because it's so common. Some folks recommended Leather Dye.
Rit sure does get the color on, as I found out.
