can you use militec on a Rat Trap?

I've heard that Militec is corrosive to certain types of materials, so I am wondering if it's okay to use on a Rat Trap folder. Been using Tuf-Glide thus far.

It will work fine, Militec isn't "corrosive" per say, it just doesnt prevent corrosion at all, and can cause slight embrittlement over time to the very surface of the material, that layer is so thin it's not worth worrying about though. If it's overheated then yes, acids can form, but that would require some 300+ degrees F before even worrying about it. The surface embrittlement can sometimes be felt in folding knives, as a less than smooth opening, it's slick, but it sticks and slips during the opening arc.

FP-10 uses similar lubrication chemistry but according to the manufacturer it's been tempered with other additives to ensure both superior lubrication and no surface embrittlement. I've been using fp-10 for a few months now and all I can say is that it works as advertised, on some knives that militec didn't help much or sometimes seemed to make worse the FP-10 smoothed them right up. The difference was most notable on my slipjoints, which have brass liners. I imagine phosphor bronze would behave similarly, but I sold my only bronze washer folder long before I had fp-10 to try on it.

FP-10 works well from what a bud in AK told me. I like S-L-I Liquid Gunsmith, which was developed for NASA and offers superior corrosion resistance (I heard about it from the BPCR crowd), and lubrication. It penetrates the metal and dries. Good stuff. A bottle will last for years. Check it out at:
