Can you use timascus on both sides of a framelock flipper?

I guess you're right. I'm going to see if my next custom can be made with both sides timascus if the maker is willing.

There are plenty of makers who have made full timascus/mokuti knives. The problem is that the materials are so expensive that they prefer not to. Having to scrap a massive chunk of timascus is incredibly expensive compared to titanium. Often times the maker will agree to the build, contingent upon you taking the financial risk for the materials. Ie, if he screws up, YOU have to buy more material, not him.

I'm pretty sure that's not the way it works. That maker would quickly go out of business if he charged his customers for his screwups.

When you request a knife made completely of Timascus or Mokuti, that's the way it works. Hence, the reason you do not see very many of them in the wild.

I totally agree with the Snugglebunny, Yes it can work that way. I have spoken to some makers about this and was told there are too many variables that can come into play on the lock side. That stuff is DAMN expensive. Most are perfectly willing to eat the cost if they screw up the show side. However if you insist on full Mokuti/Timascus etc.. then you need to take on the risk if one of those variables comes into play. This is of course discussed, and agreed upon long before the maker orders the materials. So you know exactly what your getting into.

That makes sense.

I will certainly accept the financial risk. I would hate to have the maker loose money making me a knife.

Reate is offering a lot of options with Mokuti inlays on both sides...

Edit...whoops, I think the OP meant solid Timascus or Mokuti on each side???
