Hi all,
I have a Kershaw JunkYard Dog II Composite blade and I love it. But I have watched on Youtube how people can open theirs by simply pressing the flipper. I can not get mine to do it. I don't know if it is me or the knife. Does anyone else have one that will not open with just a push of the flipper? Do you think it is probably me? If I flick my wrist when I push the flipper I can normally got it to flip right open. But others don't have to flick their wrist.

Thanks,

Bill

After the knife breaks-in it will get much smoother, good lube helps too.

You may have to mess with the pivot screw to find the sweet spot. Also the flipper works a little differently and is more of a quick push down then flip back.

+1 Mine flips very smooth but it takes a different technique that most flippers. I estimate that I have 2,000+ flips on mine and it keeps getting smoother. I can pinky flip it now but I couldn't 3 months ago. The more it breaks in the smoother it gets.

New out of the box my JYDs all flip easy. Try to preload your finger on the back of the knife and then pull it on to the flipper. Kind of like snapping your fingers. Works every time for me. The JYD2s are easier because of more blade mass.

I always had to flick my wrist a bit, along with the finger action, to deploy mine. The more I used it, the less wrist action I had to use to deploy.

A guy I met at a gun show who EDC's one of those make some kind of jimping on the flipper with a dremel so you can get a good grip on it. It help to flick it open.

Polishing the washers helps speed up the process. Just hang in there, I'll get better.

I know it isn't for everyone, but, tearing the knife down is sometimes the best answer. I say take it apart, polish the internals, lube it, reassemble and dial in the pivot screw as you go. The JYD II has a big sweet spot, so, you should be able to dial up a smooth flipper and no play. I hope you get it figured out..... a JYD II that flips smooth, fast and tight is a joyful thing.

Yep, as others have already said, it'll break in. I adjusted my pivot screw also. You need to find that sweet spot where there is no blade play and it flips out easily. Then I tighten it a hair more, lube it and let it break in. After several flips, it'll open with flipper only.

cant seem to find the right tool to adjust my pivot screw on the jydII composite, any suggestions...thnx...chop:cool:

Using this principle you can get anything to flip open. My Spyderco Military is tight enough that no amount of wrist action is going to open it. However, if I load pressure toward the pivot with my thumb, I can get it to snap open the same as with a good wrist flick.

I have a little kershaw I can use the flipper thing with very little force to flip it open quick, going to deffinetly look for a JYD at the gun show though, great looking knife.

Thnx will try it out, what do i need to do in order to loosen up the lock tite??

Twist harder

The loctite used in my Kershaws is easily overcome with a firm twist. It's not the stuff you need to heat up to red hot to be able to overcome.
