Well, life keeps getting interesting... My Girl friend is finally carrying my child and I'm asking her to move back to Sweden with me to be with family.

I want her to be extra toasty warm this winter so I was wondering where the place to pick up one of these jackets? Price isn't really an issue but I'd like to cut costs as much as I can.

Seems like all the online superstores like zappos carry the season clearance stuff. I froogled it when I was shopping for them... not much came up. I think the best way is to order it through their site. I can't find the Manitoba vest that I'm looking for either. Wound up getting my sister a North Face Metropolis coat last Christmas and she says it's like wearing a sleeping bag it's so warm. I'm not sure which particular coat you're looking for, but I'd say you've picked the right brand.

I can only tell you where NOT to buy them. eBay. Too many fraudulent copies, and counterfeits. Good luck!

I was just at the Gear Up for Outdoors store in Thunder Bay last week.
They are expensive but are good to go

Cabela's Canada also sell them - but they have always been real slow in service

Since you're in Canada already, theres a company in BC called taigaworks.ca that makes down gear. I've seen a few pieces before, but haven't used them. I will say the pics of their garments *look* pretty good.

I'd avoid North face like the plague unless you're able to personally inspect the down garment. I used to work at a outdoors store and we sold all the major brands and TNF down products sucked - they had the most inconsistent fill of all the other brands. I went through 2 refrigerator-sized boxes of down vests to find one for my wife and one for me that had good, consistent down fill. Otherwise, they're OK, but i'd *never* pay retail for 'em (got 'em at half price).

I have a Mountain Hardware Sub-Zero SL Parka and it's pretty warm. I believe Feathered Friends is probably the top-of-the-range down parka brand. Here's a link to something, if price truly is no object, that should go along way in helping you keep warm:

I think the Mountain Hardware parka is the best bargain out there for high-performance at a great price. Though i'm personally partial to Western Mountaineering down products, they simply don't have a parka of enough significance to interest me.

I second the Mountain Hardware parka, BUT my wife likes Patagonia's stuff because it fits her better. Patagonia makes a good product, expensive, but if you go to their site www.patagonia.com they also have a lot of different styles for women - take a good look at the longer ones, and if you're smarter than me, you'll let your girl friend pick out the style.
Good luck!

+1 on ordering it right from the company. I got a Snow Mantra a few years ago; the thing is unbelievably warm.

Eddie Bauer only uses northern European goose down, and are really well built and are a good price.

I just picked up a Helly Hansen down coat for myself and have been fairly impressed so far.

Eddie Bauer's First Ascent line looks pretty good too, and I'm hoping to catch a sale there sometime.
