To get something Spyderco not even rare is difficult for me. A stainless Dragonfly = impossible. Now I want a SpyderCard and a Calypso Jr (fishy, shiny, both?) = can't do it. Do I have to order through the US and pay 1.55 on the dollar, plus the random border fees? What are my options? I'm still from the old school that gives pieces of coloured paper (OK, green to you guys) to stores to get stuff. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers and thanks and stuff...

One quick search got me www.tetragon.ca

You might try some search engines with "Spyderco Canada" as your search criteria.

After doing a little more research and comparing some prices, I think you're best bet is going to be to find the lowest price in either U.S. or Canadian currency. Do the conversion so that you're comparing them all in the same currency. (ie: Convert all prices to either U.S. or Canadian dollars for comparison.) I think that after you do that you'll find them all to be pretty competitive. I'm not a big user of fake plastic money myself, but credit cards do give you the best international exchange rate. I went to France last summer on vacation and found that to be absolutely true. I found the Canadian prices to be about 1.5X the U.S. prices. I think you'll end up paying about the same value whether you buy from the U.S. or Canada.

Good luck.

Ben

hey

a little time and a good search engine will get you all the answers you want in the world (plus 10'000 you don't)

anyway - here is a list of sources you might want to try:

http://www.adamsharps.com
http://www.chaicutlery.com

or try the list that appears on:
http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sstamp/knives/vendors.html

any way - the best engine right now is - IMHO - www.Google.com .try it - it's amazing

you can also try:
www.metacrawler.com (go2net)
www.mamma.com

these two are mother engines - they searche other engines to come up with hits

another gr8 engine:

hope this helps

RLR,

Maybe if you mentioned what town/city you're from exactly somebody might be able to help you out. Or are you literally from the "woods" where polar bears and coyotes roam the land.

If you're in the TO area, there's a couple of stores you can hit that cover about the entire Spyderco line. Prices are another story. I'd also pass on that buying from the US deal. It ain't worth it with the 1.5 and possible postal theft. Some guys were ranting (and I agree with them totally) about this and they've got a thread going in the Community Forum called The Canadian Connection.

Have ordered a Spyder from Milarm, from this distance its the same as US ie credit card/money order and registered air.

RLR,

I've placed several orders through Discount Knives- last order a Spyderench, took seven days to receive it. Didn't pay any duties or tax, it was waiting for me in my mailbox. This is not the first time this has happened.

The exchange rate is not as bad as 1.55, go here for currency conversions:

www.xe.net/ucc/

Another thing, if it is made in the US, you should only be paying taxes- call Canada Customs to confirm.

Thanks. The internet avenues are interesting but I am very picky. I have to handle a knife before buying, just my old school, tactile nature. Too many random border charges that are never really based on any concrete data -- and don't even try to argue with those folks. I may be able to trek to Toronto, blaze a trail here, outrun a bear there... so ET, could you set me up with a few suggestions? Even a phone number would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

RLR

Thanks a million... looks like the place. And they have what I want...

RLR,

This is a really good post for stores in the GTA:
http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum32/HTML/000703.html

Pyro mentioned Marathon and although they do have a big selection of Spyderco's, I pause when I see the prices. Over the summer I used to work around there and would head over during my lunches and I remember a couple prices: Endura for $105, SS Dragonfly for $90, 203 Sharpener for $65-70. Don't know how they've been lately.

As well, LeBarons has hiked some of their prices. I recall seeing the price of a SS Dragonfly move from $56 to $66 as well as some upward movement in some other knives.

Your best bet is Adam Sharps www.adamsharps.com Canadain dealer, lot's of Spydercos, takes cheques. Give him a try. Hope this helps.
