It seems that the criminal code says that it's absolutely illegal to carry any folding knives in public... yet I was told that I would be allow to carry one for utility purposes.
What's the deal here?

Who the hell told you that folding knives are illegal someone is blowing wind up your ass you can carry knives fixed or folders in canada so long as they are not hidden on your person and they are used for utility reasons and not fighting or self defence or to intimadate people i myself carry a 4inch blade folder and a 6inch fixed blade for my every day carry and have never had a problem with the cops city or r.c.m.p take a look at bill c68 and see for your self http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sstamp/knives/canada.html

Thanks lots for the info!
Now I understand what that criminal code meant.

I guess that particular cop that I've talked to is a knifehater...
I found that laws in Canada dealing with knives and guns is a bit too strict.

the laws on guns are strick but the law says that we can carry knives of any size it could be worse there are countrys where you are not allowed to even owns knives.
