Been looking at the AG Russel Canadian Belt Knife and was curious if anyone had any experience with one. Good or Bad.

Thanks

I don't have an original, but I made one for Koyote Girl and she carries it EVERYWHERE- definitely a good hand feel and high utility value

I had the stainless sabre-grind version for awhile. I wish I had found the carbon flat-grind version. I liked the size, shape, and ergos of the knife, but I could not get a decently sharp edge on it ever. I gave it away to my sister-in-law's husband, who seems pleased with it.

Great knife; go with the high carbon blade, something like 1080. Holds a decent edge, easy to sharpen, quite tough.

I've inherited what I believe is a camp knife model (circa 1960s). It has a flat grind, and works well for cleaning small game and fish. My father and grandfather have used it on deer. I've never used it for any heavy woodworking, such as batoning, although my grandfather did. The blade does not appear to be reprofiled to any appreciable degree when I compare it to pictures. Because of the sentimental value, I never bring it in a situation where it is my main knife; I have a Buck or a Mora or a saw to use. I can say it is very comfortable to hold. I believe Bark River has a nice version. I always plan to get another by travelling to the factory. They sell factory seconds on site at great discount.

A friend I had in the service back in the early 80's had one his father bought when he was stationed in Labrador.I think it was in the 50's when he bought it.I loved that knife,it had a deep speckled patina that only age and use can impart.Richard never used it and it was fairly dull when he first showed it to me,but a little work on an old Arkansas stone and it popped hair.I have wanted one ever since and really could not tell you why I have never bought one.

The only ones I have seen since have more of a steep saber grind and I remember his as having almost a convex grind.I went to Grohmanns website and see that you can order it with a flat grind as well.

I loved the willow leaf shape of the blade and really need to do the right thing and order one.
