Well a while back a good friend gave me a Canadian belt knife from cold steel. I have used it for mainly food prep and a little bit of bushcraft task. I was wondering does anybody have any experience with the Krupp steel they use? Does anybody use this type of knife for an outdoors, bushcraft, fishing, etc?
I was thinking about getting a carbon steel flat grind version from grohmann sooner or later too.

I'll have some experience with the steel soon. I just ordered a Cold Steel Kudu with the same steel. I plan on compaerng it to the 154CM in my Griptillian;)

if you search in knife tests you will find a test of the Cold steel versus Mora. The Mora won but both repectable - and we need to have a sharpener handy anyway

I have the CS and the grohman equivalent. Horror of Horrors I actually find the CS more pleseant to use - for the very light duties I use it for. It is light and feels like one of those lille victornix kitchen knives but somewhat more robust.

The Grohman is much more solid and heavier - thicker steel and handle- a serious knife. For true survival bushcrafting of cours etc grohman is better. But for light duties..

The other grohman that catches my eye is the boat knife (also issued to the Canadian military) . It has the offset handle but a flatter rather than eliptical blade - A full flat grind in that could be quite nice

Have fun

I gave dad one 2yrs ago & he uses it to process wild game & food prep...it does great at this but I wouldn't make it my main blade.

I have a CS Canadian belt knife and it is a pretty good blade for the price. I have put it in the kitchen where it gets everyday use. So far (2 weeks) it has done well as a sort of heavy duty paring knife.

I never used it much outdoors as it was one of the first knives I ordered when I became interested in trying different brands and models of inexpensive knifes. I think it would serve well for light duty but it is far from a heavy duty blade.

The kinife has retained its edge pretty well in kitchen duty but again, not sure how it would do in heavy outdoors use.

I have used Krupp 4116 on the Finn Bear and the Kabar Warthog. It's a capable user stainless steel easily sharpened with a stone. It holds a decent edge and I find it more than capable for whittling tasks and general slicing. For the price it's not a bad gig. The Finn Bear is one of my alltime favorite backup blades and I use it for alot of carving tasks. The Warthog is a no BS inexpensive using folder that's both sturdy and comfortable. Both of my experiences have been pretty good :D

I use mine mostly in the kitchen as well, wife loves it. Just use light touch ups on a crock stick every now and then

I have an old Herters model. I havent used it other than whittling on a stick.
