Hello everyone, I am a Canadian knife collector and mostly collect slipjoints. I have been trying to find information on vintage, Canadian, factory made slipjoints but haven't been able to find much. I'm hoping some of the more veteran collectors in here might be able to shed some light on the history of Canadian slipjoint knives. I'm mostly looking for names of companies who made slipjoint knives in Canada but as long as they are folding knives and made in Canada, that is okay too. If anyone knows a website or another thread on bladeforums with information on this topic, that would be great too. Thanks very much :D

Premier??? But I think they had knives made for them? Somebody definitely knows more than I about this

Damn, we are pathetic lol.

Not really. It's important to understand what Canada's history is. Generally we were all about exporting raw goods and importing made ones. During the world wars we evolved into an industrial society focused on the war effort. Building the same thing Sheffield was doing wasn't required. As nice as a good pocket knife is they don't win wars.

There are Canadian makers now. If you hit up gun and outdoor shows you'll meet them. There's also North Arms in British Columbia but they focus on more modern knives.

Then as now Canadians are eminently practical.

Same goes for Australia - there ain’t much industry to see here. Not sure why, but as Danke42 notes it’s likely an economic thing.
