After seeing this I ran down to the park and built one. Will go back early tomorrow morning and see how it burns.
 
Looks like an awful lot of work for the end result. Do you need to take along a chain saw?
 
A scout troop next to ours made one of those a few years ago at a Jamboree. It looked really neat and burned for quite awhile. I have never built one though, but keep the idea in back of my mind.
 
Before I got kicked out of the park by an ornery old coot on a golf cart emptying garbage cans on a holiday while everybody else had the day off, I had great results with my Swedish Torch. I did the kind with the logs tied together with Sisal rope. It started easily and caught the logs quickly. I will certainly be using the method again, although I will either tie the rope lower or use wire next time cuz it eventually burned through the Sisal and at that point it just became a regular campfire. Which is ok, I guess.
