I am in Canada and say I want to buy a knife in the US from a helpful Hog and use a money order. Do I buy a Canadian Postal Money Order? A money Order From a Canadian Bank? I don't think I can Buy a USPS money order from canada? What is the best way.

Hi,

At your local post office outlet you can obtain a money order which you specify as being in US funds (I've done so way too many times!) :)

I'm sure you can also obtain a money order at a bank, but it's hard to beat the convenience of the post office outlets.

Check and see if your PO has international MO's? There should be a Canadian postal website that you can check this out on. The USPS has them, and they are good for sending cash to Canada & other nations.... There's always the option of a bank wire transfer... Hope this helps ya. :)

Not that it really matters, with the exchange rate these days :), but the post office will send the money order in US funds.

When I bought my grinder, I sent a CanadaPost money order in US funds without a problem. From what I understand of it, since CanadaPost and USPS are both gov. postal services, they honor each others money orders without an issue. You may not have as easy a time trying to send a MO from a canadian bank, especially if they don't have branches in the US.

Great, Thanks for the answers guys. I just want to make sure that when the Hog I send this to gets it, he will be able to cash it without any problems.

If you are really concerned, i am willing to send the payment for you and inspect the blade to be sure you aren't being ripped off... :D:thumbup:

just a few things to note
if you use a canadian postal money order they charge a few percent for us currency (even though it is about par) on top of their fee but the seller can cash at any local po with no charge
a bank mo will be a bit cheaper but it could be hard for them to cash and they might want to wait for it to clear
a bank draft works good for large sums 1k and up
i usually prefer the postal mo so the seller can get cash in hand the easiest

I just bought a Busse from an American Hog. Sent a Canadian Bank money order in US funds. When the funds cleared, he sent the knife. No problem.

I had no trouble cashing them at the Post Office, but if you try and cash them at your bank it might not float. My bank said it would take at least from 3-6 weeks to cash and there would be a 25% charge for doing so. I believe they do it through some sort of claims service or something....BAD IDEA :p
