Does anyone have info regarding a Canadian bayonet made in Montreal and issued to Canadian Snipers? I don't know if there is an actual model designation. All I have is what my contact told me, as stated above. I may have one of these come within my reach in the next few days, but my research turned up squat.

HELP!

Indeed, this is a silly thing. Perhaps it is a knife rather than a bayonet. A sniper with a bayonet...I can't believe that didn't occur to me at all. I feel a bit foolish.

Still, an edged weapon of sorts issued to Canadian snipers. So I'm told.:D

The Canadian military is equiped with the M16 series of rifles. They would have C7 bayonets made by Nelia Cutlery. These bayonets are similar to the older US M-7 bayonet, but have stainless steel blades, and use a different plastic sheath.

Either the sniper units have been issued M-9 style bayonets, or they may still be using the older larger caliber (longer range) FN-Fal rifles equiped with the older Canadian C1 bayonets similar to the one shown below.

Hi n2s, well I thought of that too, however the piece in guestion is in a leather sheath. Don't know if its the original sheath as I've not actually seen it myself. My source should recieve it this week so I'll know more then.

Thanks for the replies. I'll update this thread when I know more. In case anyone is curious.:)

I was in Kandahar in April/May and spent many nights talking with the Canadain snipers. Specifically with the spotter for the Canadain sniper who shot the Taliban at 2430meters (took 3 shots). He and his buddy both had tactical folders (sorry do not remember specific brands) but the spotter was more than happy when I gave him a Camillus Becker Combat Utility 7. They did not mention any fixed blades being issued to them. I looked for but did not see any Canadians of the 3rd BN, PPCLI carrying anything but therir version of the M16 (no SLR's). If anything they would have the Canadian version of the M7 as Not2Sharp pointed out.

...When was the bayonet issued to Canadian snipers?

This is the Ross model 1905 bayonet. Perhaps this is what your friend is talking about. But, things have to be very bad if you are issuing 100 year old rifles to your elete troops.

I don't believe that it is a recent issue knife. I must admit though, that my friend has mis-identified pieces before. He's more into uniforms, hats, medals, badges, that sort of thing. I'm dying to get a look at this thing.

Thanks again. :)

Just picked up a nice Ross M1910 bayonet with scabbard. Canadian issue with the arrow within C mark. Markings indicate that it was made in 1911 and issued in November 1916. I've not been able to find any of these on ebay and so I don't know what they are selling for. Any ideas?

It looks just like the pic that n2s posted above except that the blade has been modified "for better penetration"...looks like an upside down clip point blade. This is not the elusive "sniper bayonet" I originaly posted about, my source is still waiting for that one, but he says it looks just like it. Of course, he also said that the M1910 was a cut down British P1907.

Hey Guys..

I believe what you are talking about is the Grohmann R3 or (Canadain Army knife) as it is also refered to...

The Canadian boys are issued these as well as Gerber multi-tools.

The C7 bayonet is the same or similar to the M16 bayonet.. Not the FNCI bayonet as pictured above.

I'm proud to say that There were a few Grohmann R3's over there with my sheaths, as well as a mess of Busse's.

Hope that helps..

Eric...
