I am going to be going to Talahasse FL in about 3 weeks for work. Being Canadian and a knife nut I am very used to carrying a knife of some type(usually at least 2, a leatherman and some other type). My question is what are the laws concerning this in Florida? Can I carry my normal EDC? (Usually one of the following and a leatherman wave, izula, bm grip, bm mini grip, para, Delica, or an Endura)

I have never ventured into the US before (been all over the world just never to the US of A) so I am looking for some advice I have very little Idea what I am getting myself into.

Thanks in advance for any info that you guys can provide.

Cheers.

i've been a FL knife user and LEO, for many moons, so i'll give you a little info. first of all, i know NOTHING about what city ordinances Talllahassee might have. however, FL state statute is pretty lenient. FL is a knife friendly place.

anything other than "a common pocket knife" is considered a weapon. concealing a (non firearm) weapon, without a permit, is a misdeamor. openly carrying a (non firearm) weapon is TOTALLY LEGAL per STATE law, like is said - i don't know if Tallahassee has their own laws.

"a common pocket knife" is open to interpretation not only by the on scene LEO, but also by the Judge in the event you are charged.

realistically, a (non auto) folder of any length clipped in your pocket is NOT going to cause a problem.

Thank you, both of you that commented. It sounds like FL is a lot like it is here in Canada as far as blades are concerned which gives me hope.

what about a small fixed blade?

5 1/2 OAL just over 2 inch blade?
orange handle

its very non-threatening...

i keep it in my pocket usually but dont have my concealed yet...am i gambling?

Yes, you are gambling with a first degree misdemeanor
(13) "Weapon" means any dirk, knife, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon except a firearm or a common pocketknife, plastic knife, or blunt-bladed table knife.

Your fixed blade is most likely not going to be viewed as a common pocketknife.

Here's what could happen: You are stopped, searched, and found carrying a concealed weapon.

(A) you go to jail charged with the violation.
(B) The knife is taken and logged in as found property and you get a warning.

Depending on two variables:
(A) officer on scene
(B) Your prior history, if any, and how you conduct yourself on the stop
