Hey guys i bought a canal street stockman with 440c and was thinking about using it for edc. I was wondering if anyone that has used their 440c steel how well does it hold an edge as compared to 1095.

Thanks

In my experience about the same maybe a little better depending upon how it was treated.
(forget about a patina though :)).

I still like 440C after all these years. It is a good all around stainless that takes minimal if any care holding a decent edge.

Haven't tried Canal Street 440C. I have tried one of their other alloys and found it to be done well.

Assuming a good heat treat, 440C will hold an edge noticeably better than 1095 in cutting abrasive media such as cardboard, or manila rope. (Famous Knifemaker and uber stahl aficionado Phil Wilson has stated that skinning game also falls into the "cutting abrasive media" category.)

I've been eyeing their 4" stockman for some time, precisely because of the 440c. However, I've seen Canal Street trappers with noodles for backsprings. How is the snap in your stockman?

Mine has good snap on all the blades. I was just wondering how welll their heat treat was on the 440C

Thanks jth250.

I've looked around a bit to see what people think of the heat treat on this knife. Although I've not seen it addressed specifically, other owners seem to think it's a great knife overall.
