I have decided to focus my traditional knife collection on Barlows, and currently have a few GEC in hand and another on order, and one Northwoods Madison (I know its designation as a true Barlow is questionable) on the way. I would like to add another brand, and am debating between the CSC and S&M Barlows. Any thoughts on quality and fit & finish between the two?

I have one of each and would be happy to send them to you for a test drive.

Wow...I don't know what to say other than this community is incredible! I can't think of a reason to say no, other than being taken aback by your incredibly nice offer. I'll PM you.

I would say the two would be pretty equal other than CSC has glued on shields and Schatt has pinned. Other than that, my taste runs closer to favoring Schatts.

The quality of recent purchases from Canal Street Cutlery has been on-par with the File & Wire series from Schatt and Morgan. Different aesthetics and a different philosophy regarding the 'feel', but no overall difference in fit-and-finish.

Buy one of each. :D

There are also some new Winchester Branded Barlows out there. I think these are made by Queen for Bluegrass Cutlery. The Canal Street Cutlery Barlow's I have seen are very nice knives.

Canal street barlows do not have shields. The bolsters are engraved.

I have owned both and prefer the shape of the canal street...they also put a decent edge on their knives.
