Canal Street Cutlery......

I was over there today I was very impressed with what I saw and my information is that there will be availability fairly soon. Once again a knife is a very personal item so each individual will have to decide if price, quality, and all the other factors involved in these pieces fits your individual pistol ( so to speak ). Filed liners, excellant fitting and actions that can only be found in production knives made by people who have been doing it for a long time and by companies that use only the best materials all seem to point to what should be a beautiful classy product line. The ones ( prototypes ) that I have seen ( to me are as nice as many custom made knives ). But you have to remember these are not chinese roughriders and you ( should but don't always ) get what you pay for. I believe in this situation the buyer will be getting something worth the money they spend. The final decision will be one made by each person as it should be. There are a couple of surprises coming up but, I am afraid that at this point I cannot spill the beans. LT

Thank you,
I guess I'll continue to sit chilly until the knives are released. I hope they (the principals) will have some pictures and ordering information for us.

Bill

With all that is going on, whether it right or wrong, I do not believe that at the moment it the web site, is considered a priority issue. I will mention it though. LT

I think it would be some good worldwide publicity, even if it only contained a "press release" type article, mission statement, couple of well done pics. A customer service e-mail address can be added anytime later. It is the chaepest way to get your name and product in front of a lot of people. In today's business world, launching a new enterprise without a web connection is like trying to open a store with no sign. A lot of knife collectors would keep checking back for updates. I would. I do!

I will tell them Mike but I am just the guy who drops in and pesters them. Although at this point perhapes they will listen to what people say. LT

At this point I do not think they are big enough to have ironed out all of the problems as I mentioned they have a lot on there plate right now and it would seem there is a lot to do. Again I do not know there prioritys. I can only suggest you give them a call. 845-647-5900. LT

Today I received a reply from Canal Street Cutlery concerning a letter of inquiry sent a couple of weeks ago. Here are some details that may be of interest.

- Canal Street is enthusiactic about the Shot Show response.

- The initial offering is being sold as matched sets only.

- Each set consists of a drop point rigid sheath knife and a 4-1/8 inch Trapper.

- Blades are D2.

- They are accepting reservations now. Full payment ($300) is due by the middle of March.

- The knives will be available the end of March or first week of April.

- These are serialized limted edition matched sets, limited to 400.

I hope some of you find this information useful.

- Hank

Cool! The site shows only the two limited edition introduction sets, but they are nice. The one amber jigged bone two blade trapper and matching 8" drop point fixed, and the oxblood red burl wood two blade trapper and matching 8" drop point fixed. 400 pcs. limted serialized sets just as LT described. They are priced there too. And reasonable.

The premium-priced Limited Edition sets don't me, but I'm very interested in seeing their standard lineup.

I went to the NKCA show this weekend and the Queen booth had advertising for Canal Street. Unfortunately they only had an empty display case and some flyers to look at. The rep said they were hoping to have a knife by the show but it didn't happen but they should be out any time now. Apparently it's a joint effort with both Queen and Canal Street.
Schrades didn't seem to be very common at the show. The ones I did see were very reasonably priced.
I ended up with a S&M series 2 file and wire swing guard. I am very impressed with the S&M series especially for the price. I think my next purchase (unless I find a Schrade I want) will be one of Queens Delrin handle models that I won't mind using hard.

I received my information packet from Joseph Hufnagel at Canal Street Cutlery Co. They list eleven patterns of traditional folders and two fixed blades they intend to add to the upcoming product line, and included the Limited Edition materials that LT showed us just before the S.H.O.T. show. The jigged bone set is indeed $300, but the stabilized oxblood wood set is $275, plus $5 shipping for each set. They intend to begin shipping sometime in April.

Hey MintSetMan, welcome to our forum! Hope you won't be a stranger.

Yep, got my info today, vey interesting. Looking at the numbering key, they have big, big plans. I see no Texas Toothpick listed, but there are plenty of numbers left for future patterns.

I'm going back and forth on whether or not to order the initial offering of two knives. I'd certainly want the bone, and I do like fixed blade hunters and trappers.
