Well I just purchased my first Canal Street Trapper off of ebay. (Thanks Lt).
I am really looking forward to getting it. I wish the folks at Canal Street all the success in the world. It's nice to know that great American quality and workmanship can continue to thrive.

I check them out on eBay. They really look good!
I found the following information on one of the auctions on eBay:

"The former president of Imperial Schrade, Walter Gardiner and a group of master cutlers from the old Schrade Corp. started Canal Street Cutlery Co. in the old Schrade factory located at 30 Canal Street, Ellenville, N.Y. following the closing of Imperial Schrade in July 2004. This new company is producing Heirloom quality, limited edition, pocket and hunting knives that are of the finest quality collector grade knives made today."

I did a Google search and found them in several cutlery stores. I also found in article about them at: http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2005/08/07/biz2.htm

It sounds promising. It would be nice to have an American tradition continue.

Goliath becomes David. OK so come with me now to those golden days of yesteryear ( From the beginning of the Lone Ranger show ). It is 1956 you have been back from Korea a few years and are looking for a job. You have a wife two kids and your favorite beer is Ballantine or Rheingold. You are driving your 53 chevy up canal street in Ellenville and see this sign your father worked there. It represents a future so you sign up and spend the next 30 or 40 years producing american knives ( some of the finest ever made. ). You raise a family who hopefully by your sacrifices goes on to whatever future they wish thanks to your devotion, love and sacrifices to country, family , and the american dream. You wake up one morning and most of your friends are gone and the company you spent your life working for has also died. The type of person I have described does not whimper, or wallow in self pity. He dusts himself off and says is that the best you have heck we will just start over. Attitude is every thing. LT

I got my first Canal Street trapper today. What a beauty. It sure has a great feel to it. Thanks again Lt. You can tell the guys at Canal Street congratulations on a job well done. It's good to see something good like this come out of what happened.

By the way Lt, I like the way you think. Are you sure you're not from Texas? Because that's the way most of the folks I know think down here.

I am sure glad you like it. TEXAS does not have a monopoly on BALLS although it may very well have the majority of those that do. Thankyou for what I consider to be the consumate compliment it is not often that a new Yorker receives such an accolade from a TEXICAN. Must be something to it my father was stationed in TEXAS when his new wife ( my mother ) went out ( from Brooklyn where my father had been previously stationed ) to be with him. Near as can be figured that is when I was conceived ( at least that is the story I got ). My parents returned to NYS where I was born so you might say TEXICAN by INJECTION. Possibly it has something to do with the air or water in Texas. Now that has to be more information than you either wanted or needed to know.

Use your new knife in health and prosperity until the day YOU, decide you no longer want to. LT
