Well, it arrived and it's quite a knife!

This is a new offering from Canal Street Cutlery - the D'Alton Holder Bowie Hunter, skinner blade with a mirror finish. The entire knife is cast of the new Sandvik "Super Steel" 19C27 at 60-62 Rc. The 4-7/8" blade is mirror polished and the handle scales are Buffalo horn with a nickel silver CSC shield. Measures 9-3/8" tip to butt and weighs 9.5 oz. Limited to 400 serial numbered knives; this is number 226.

#226 will definitely see some use this fall!

That is drop-dead gorgeous.

Ahhhh, I am now like Jimmy Carter. I have now lusted in my heart. (A reference the 70's folks.)

I wasn't thrilled with my first C.S.C. knife, but every subsequent purchase has been very good to outstanding. Their new fixed blade lineup is very well executed with quality steel and beautiful handle materials.

Thanks for sharing your pictures of the Bowie Hunter. I hadn't seen that model before.

Yeah, I remember that interview. No mention of it in the Carter Center, though... ;)

outstanding knife, my number 21 won't see any use, it will sit right next to the sfo buffalo horn d'holder drop point Canal Street came out with a few years ago

I have the same one. Almost excellent fit and finish of the knife and the sheath, nice and rare steel but the handle is quite short even for my small hands. But this is a collection item after all.I don`t intend to skin or quarter a deer or a hog with this knife for sure.

It's a hard call for me - whether or not to use it. It really is a nice knife, but I'm not sure I'd designate it strictly a collector's piece. The handle is on the shorter side, but because of the shape, I don't seem to have a problem with it. It's quite comfortable.

the knife costs $350, its integral cast with sandvik's top of the line steel, designed by d'holder and limited to 400 pieces, i would say it's pretty much a collectible. the handle is short, but still comfortable and fits well in the hand though, and its very well balanced, would probably make a very good user, but canal street makes a fantastic stag or micarta(sfo) drop point hunter that you can pick up for about $90 and leave the bowie at home.
