Canal Street Half Moon

I would expect quality to have improved recently with folks like EA42 working there. They take pride in their work, and once I received mine back it was near perfect. Alas, the pattern itself was not to my liking and both went to new homes.

Given the opportunity, it would be preferable to handle these in hand before committing. But, I understand that is very difficult to do now a days.

I bought one off the Exchange a month or two ago and I'm more than happy with it. I have no idea when it was made.

I still love mine, it's the red stag posted in that other thread. Pull is lighter than on some others but not as light say as a Buck 301. I would buy another in a second and am always on the lookout for one of those cool SFOs that tickles my fancy.

I've owned about 6 half moon trappers of recent manufacture and haven't had any problems with them. One had some very slight gaps in the backspring but they could only be seen with light behind it.

AG Russell has some nice sfos for the half moon along with droppointhunter.com...who I believe is a vendor here.

Their English Barlow is damn fine as well.

I have a half moon trapper. Bought it in 2008. It is well made with no gaps and a beautifully made blade. The springs are exactly flat in both the opened and closed positions. The spring strength is about a 3, which is perfectly acceptable to me. The blade alloy is 14-4 CrMo, the Latrobe version of 154CM.
