LiL'PeteSBIp455.jpgAny one else excited for this one? A wharncliffe trapper based on the half moon frame.
Apparently due out in april, does any one else have any news?

Looks like a nice one to me. I like anything Wharncliffe though. 14-4Mov, couldn't be bad steel, I don't see why CSC isn't more popular. I like several of their offerings.

I purchased 4 CSC knives this past year--2 for me, 2 for friends--and have been delighted with the fit, finish, steel quality, and value of each. That wharncliffe trapper looks like it would be great in full moon, half moon, and peanut sizes. It looks like they have a winner there.

Hubba hubba! A WT in 14-4CrMo? I'll be all over it.

The Case Bose WT runs about $450.

If CS runs a similar pattern in almost the same alloy with their standard impeccable fit and finish and charges in the $100 range, this knife might present a bit of a problem for Case.

Isn't the half moon frame a 3 & 7/8ths inch pattern? EDIT: Just googled and it is. I wish someone would make a full size wharnie trapper besides Case. In a steel like this.

It would be better IMO to be a tad smaller .like 3-3/8" closed

Found this on a dealer's website (non-supporting so I can't post which one)......

Welcome from the International SHOT Show - where Canal Street Cutlery just announced it's newest knife - LiL' Pete.

LiL' Pete is a 3¾" Two Blade Trapper made using the "half moon trapper" profile. It sports two 14-4 CrMo Latrobe Steel Blades (Clip and Wharncliffe), stainless steel liners, springs, bolsters and caps. LiL' Pete is scheduled for production in April 2014. Pictured below are prototypes of the open stock American Chestnut and Sunset Smooth Bone versions.

Aside from the nail nick on the wharncliffe (which might work fine, but is aesthetically unpleasant to my eye), this knife could really pull some money out of my wallet.
I agree with Vince that a slightly smaller version would be better, but Canal Street is not a company who introduces new frames every other month, so it doesn't surprise me that they're using the "old" half moon frame. Anyway, I agree with Frank, this knife could really get some love.
And as for handle materials, I love their chestnut wood ;)

I agree with Fausto. My first thought was the same as Frank's, I love the size and the steel, but the placement of the nail nick way out on the tip of the Wharncliffe is unwieldy for me. I'll probably pass on this one.

Frank's got a good point. This is a potentially serious competitor at that price range, making this pattern more accessible to the masses.

(Personally, I still favor the carbon steel that GEC uses over a stainless option, but I know that many others will want this decent-quality stainless.)
