There have been several requests as to what Canal Street Cutlery is producing. The ( not so great pictures ) are of the 9 patterns presently being produced as the in house that is to say CSC regular production. Versus special contracts and special issues. There will be 400 of each of these they are individually serial numbered. When production of each pattern is concluded these patterns ( with perhapes additions or deletions ) to be determined later will be issued with different handle materials They are handled in Dark Amber Stag Bone all are 420 high carbon stainless except the drop point hunter which is D-2 steel. They are polished mark side blade. I will be posting twice so to include all 9 pictures. Again please excuse the pictures they do not do these justice.

Dang, I am partial to those serpentine stockmans. I am happy with my muskrat, though. Are all those yours?

Thanks for sharing, LT.

I bought a few sets chances are I will be putting a few up on the bay or at shows. Just something to mess with. I am sure there will be people with positive and negative opinions. Please understand all I did was show some pics since several people have asked what was going on. My opinion on the quality and workman ship is already known. However I do respect everyones point of view and I expect the same in return. Personally I am really taken with the folding hunter the congress the musky, and the floating guard heck I guess I like them all. LT

Canal street is making some beautiful knives in my opinion. I am a traditionalist when it comes to knives, and every pattern they have produced so far fits my plate. I like some handle materials better than others, but they at least are sticking to natural materials.

I bought the latest issue of Knives Illustrated today (Oct. '05) and found an article on the June Blade Show in Atlanta. Canal Street is mentioned (a whole paragraph of their own on P.17), and their prototype integral bolster fixed blade designed by D'alton Holder! They chose 19C Sandvik for the steel (I believe this is Swedish steel?). A.G. Russell is to get the first fifty of them. There is a picture of the knife on P.20 The proto has either stag, or stagged bone handle (not specified, and hard to tell from the photo). This is definately not your queen's blade. Though they may be providing the custom blanks. Or not.

Codger: How far back up in the Tennesee hills do you live? I've had my December copy of KI for several days. I dug out the Oct. issue and re read it. I had completely missed the Canal Street info and the picture. I'm going to have to have one of those Canal/D'Holder knives to go with My SCHRADE/D'Holders. I bet LT doesn't have to wait for A.G. Russell. With his connections, I bet he already has the proto type of the proto type. I have to join with you and LT on the Canal Street quality. The two CSC knives I have are as nice as any knives I've ever owned.

Canal is playing the game pretty straight If Russell gets 50 and that is the issue he gets them all and no specials I guess he gets the option on them ( protos as well ). I agree with that it is honest, if he pays for a special issue he should get the whole enchalada. That is why I do not have a CSC Schlatt and Morgan pearl congress. I did piss and moan but they are right ingegrity is primary. I have I must admit seen the drawings and some other interesting materials but looking is allowed. I have had this full set of 9 on the dining room table now for a couple of days and keep making excuses ( to myself ) for not putting them on the bay. Some of the materials they have planned for future releases are outrageous. I suppose that nothing can be perfect good or bad but all of the ones I have handled have an amazing quality to them that usually is only found in customs. Some of the models more than others but all impressive. I can only liken it to the feel of an Old Schrade Cut or pre 1940 Case or a New York Knife Co. The actions are almost fluid and the materials ( which I am sure some feel could always be better ) I find are just beautiful the workmanship on those I have seen is old time craftsmanship. LT

I live down by the Tennessee River near Pickwick Dam, but have to hitch up the mules for a daytrip to Jackson Tennessee to get my knife magazines. Since this is a disease, I should get a prescription and have them delivered here. Blue cross/blue shield cover that? Co-Pay?

The article preceded the announcement of the D'Holder collaboration with the "limited editions of 400" blurb, which is standard for CSC, I understand, so maybe this issue is not another 50 pc. FSO from Russell, but he got dibs on a pre-production order. He is quite familiar with D's work as a maker, and loves to handle the Schrade D'Holder collaboration knives. Heck, maybe we can FSO next year's forum knife from them!
