I recently acquired the below Canal Street knife. I'm not too familiar with Canal Street and was wondering if the knife was in any way unique or rare? Because it's not really my style, I'm likely going to sell or trade it and was wondering so I could put an appropriate price on it. From my research it seems to be a fairly standard production piece but wasn't sure.

The model is a Single Blade Half Moon Trapper with Sambar Stag handles. See pictures below. Thanks for any help.

I'll bet Trand (2Dead) would know.

I have seen CSC knives with india stag from A.G. Russell that they say are exlcusive to their catalog, one of which was the two blade regular Moon Pie trapper. Not sure if your Half Moon is part of that same series.

Canal Street will do special runs for retails typically not exceeding 25 pcs. with AG they can be upwards of 200 pcs...from the three digit serial number on the bolster I'd have to say even though it's a beautiful piece it's most redeeming feature is that it's stag.....

Okay, I found an archived image of a Russell catalog from Christmas 2009. It shows a Half Moon with India Stag and does say it's an exlcusive. The item number on the paper shown with your knife is a match to the item number from the Russell catalog - 1196249. No mention in the catalog description of how many pieces were in their run of the knife.

I'll PM you a link if you like.

A link would be great. The number on the bolster is 235, if that helps at all.

Thanks for the replies.

I did a little more research and it seems to be part of the Half Moon line but as others have said, the Sambar Stag makes it unique.

Why not just ask AG? He participates on this forum, send him a PM or email him at AG Russell Co. I'm sure he will be able to tell you about your knife.

I know there were a few patterns made by Canal Street for A G Russell using Stag that he supplied to them for his SFO's. That was a little more recent than 2008 though, could of been an earlier SFO.

I'm almost positive it's an A.G. Russell SFO, along with his sambar stag he also has the knives done with satin finished blades rather than polished.

Looks like the question's been answered (and I learned some more). I don't have one of these, my Sambar Stag HMT is from 2010.

Thanks, everyone. I may contact AG Russell to get more info.

Also, forgive my ignorance, what does SFO stand for? Special Factory Order? All I'm coming up with is Spyderco Factory Outlet and I know that's not it. :D

Jack, you say: "I'm not too familiar with Canal Street". So far posts have been just about this specific knife. In case you are not aware, CSC is a new company but made up largely of former Schrade USA employees. These people bring a great deal of knife making experience and their desire is to make some of the very best Traditional style knives possible. Rather than 'mass produce', they do small runs and attempt to give their best efforts to every knife.
For us Schrade collectors, CSC is 'special' as it is in a way Schrade living on.
This single blade Trapper may not be your style but i bet it's a fine knife and there are plenty of us who would like to own it.

It appears the OP is well on the way to getting the info needed so let's close this down. Those who may be interested can contact the OP privately as to whether the knife will end up in the "exchange".
