I had been keeping a watch on the new Canal Street Cutlery knives since they first surfaced. I saw this one at Cumberland and sent Bill an order.
SFO of only 26, Sambar stag, 3 1/2" closed, serial number on one of the bolsters, 420 stainless, brass liners. I really like the burnt look to the stag and was glad to see a nice genuine Sambar stag knife show up. Very well done on the part of Canal Street. I believe some of the ex-Schrade people had a hand in forming this company.
They had earlier offered a package set that included a folder and a fixed blade. The catalog stated that the set used D2. I'm sure 420 will be fine for the "gentlemanly" uses I have planned for this one but another steel would have been nice. I'm not really too much of a steel snob though.
Another thing I would have liked to see on the knife is half stops. No reason other than I like them. I think it is great that another traditional folder maker is in business. Canal Street gets a thumbs up from me.
