OK then,

From an A. G. Russell email:

Here are some new knives from Canal Street Cutlery......with popular D2 blades (still Queen?)...

http://www.k-c-c.com/brochure/k050727/b.html

Just scroll down a mite, and there they are!
They appear to be an A.G. Russell exclusive. Nice giraffe scales, good steel, pretty fair price.

Very nice, anybody have more information??

Bill

P. S.
I realize most of us get A.G.'s mailings, but some who visit here might not. That was my only reason for posting this, and the link.

Nice.

I know of two guys who might get together and buy one of those sets, one folder and one fixed blade....

I've never used D2, I have seen 440C, AUS8, ATS34, VG10, and of course R2D2 and C3PO :D .

Luis, Luis,

All of your talents....and a Matchmaker as well. ;)

I like all of those steels as well, but have found both R2D2 and C3P0 to require too much maintenance for EDC... :D

I, of course, prefer the folding knife.

If this is true, it's harder than Queen's own D2 models.

Too bad they only sell them in the stupid 2 pack deals. This particluar stockman handle doesn't appeal to me anyway, but I guess I like it better than the trappers.

Carl,

Not harrassing or being argumentative, I promise. :) But how hard is Queen's D2? I thought I'd read somewhere previously that the Q's D2 also Rc'd at like 60 or 61. Set me straight. Thanks.

I remember a dealer telling me that once, but then several people insisted it was 58-60, and some one even said flat out 58 (though maybe that was mistranslated). I don't have any other D2 knives of known hardness to compare, but given how much praide I have heard of D2 I am slightly disappointed with the Queen I have. It's not bad, but I expected a little more.

At the risk of being a heritic, I'll go on record as saying I think these are overpriced. There is no longer any mystique about D2 as a blade materiel, Queen and Kabar have been doing D2 for a while now in production blades, along with some other companies. Besides, if you look at Mooemaker and CSC knives side by side, its obvious that they are both made by Queen. For quite abit less, you could get a matching set of Mooremakers in 1095 and in real terms of useage, not sacrifice any noticable performance. I appreciate what CSC is doing by going for the high-end market, but it leaves guys like me on the outs and wishing that they made something more mid-range in price. Just my 2 cents, which is what the "Boss" says is my knife budget for the month.

I could not agree more....but it looks like CSC will only be doing limited edition more expensive stuff, not basic standard product "using" knives.

Only a little. The Kabar D2 folders I know of are $100+, right? The Queens are definitely a good deal, but I think they could be better, just not for the same price. Also, the really good deals on Queens are the plastic/delrin/whatever slabs, not the fancy bone slabs. Their fancier Schatt and Morgans are more like canal street prices but with 420HC. The latest 420hc Canal Streets are no more.

The Moore Makers are nice but the 1095 seems a little soft if I recall correctly. They weren't exactly cheap when I was looking to buy mo[o]re of them, minimum $60 for cheapest model discounted from one of the few stores that had one.

I was HOPING to see canal street D2 knives super well made for around $100.
