Does anyone know anything about them? I came across a 20” camel back model that looks really intriguing. It must be from around 1900-1920 and weighs about 1000 pounds. Drill speed is variable from about 60 rpm up to maybe 700 or so based on the little bit of literature I found on it. Power down feed works as does everything else. I can get it bought for less money than a new high end Chinese drill press will cost. I’ve just never heard of them before so I’m proceeding with caution.

I think my antique post drill press (hand cranked circa 1880) is a Canady & Otto.
I don't know about your machine, but it is probably a deal and a half . They were built like they had to last 100 yaers ... which is why some are still around.
You might have to do some work on the sleeves or bearings, but the chassis should be sound.

One plus is it is belt driven. You can swap out the old motor for a 3 Phase motor and add a VFD to get a variable speed unit without switching the pulley ratio all the time.
