Canes at ranch supply place

Last weekend when up in Fallon, I saw what looked like 1 1/8th inch thick 36 inch long unfinished hook top canes. Maybe oak, from their weight, which varied a bunch. They were over near the livestock section.

If they are still there, I may pick up 4 or 6 of them. They were either 10 or 15 bucks each. Have to look at the canemasters fighting canes and do a number on the blanks.

Saw the same locally about 3 weeks ago.
think they were called dividing canes or something similar
used for guiding stock in a pen I gather.
most were about 5-ft
though I think some weree closer to regular cane length
Price about the same as you saw.

they also carried stock whips & bull whips & ring whips
pretty cheap, $10-$30

Also noticed that lariats were only $8-$30 or so
-sturdy-, 12'-40', with leather reinforced hondo loop

They even had -used- (? factory reconditioned) ropes
for $9 (40-ft).

Interesting place to browse.

Even found something for DiJ,
need to get a picture up.

I had the cane in the photo made in the U.S. Don't recall the maker, but it wasn't Canemasters... It's hickory, and octagonal, not round. The crook is extra large, and sharpened, and there are three areas with carved notches for better gripping.

I spend a lot of time in Tractor Supply and they have started carrying them as well.

A cane can be a very deadly weapon. No doubt about that.

I have a friend who uses a pick ax handle modified with a leather piece on top for his hand as a walking stick. Very intimidating. Sort of like a long baseball bat.

Rusty needs a backup when he travels on planes, and this is the perfect backup when he can't have his other backups...
