Sorry, couldn't resist that heading... but a serious question - and I hope it isan't out of line to post it here.

I am planning on flying soon and would like to carry along my new CS Purpleheart Walkabout. I have heard stories (no confirmed) of TSB guards escorting people to their seats and then confiscating canes. Any truth here? Anyone know of anybody having problens with a cane or, more to my imediate concern, with carrying a walking stick on to a plane?

I read over on the canemaster.com that Master Shuey once had a problem. From what I remember he was allowed to bring one cane on board and his carry on bag with other canes had to be put with the luggage. It seems they told him that they were somewhat of a weapon. Check out his website for the complete story.
I have one of his diamond shaft serrated edge canes and I love it. I have used in around town and never had a remark. You might also try to get a letter from your doctor, stating that you need to use a cane, even if it states occasionally. I have one and can produce it at any time. It is written on one of his perscription pads. I got this idea from Master Shuey.
I think you might a get more problems with a straight cane. You never know, it all depends who's checking you out and how you present yourself. Did you recently get this cs cane. I would like to find one in the purpleheart wood.
I myself am looking forward to training with a straight cane this year. I plan on using a bokken and shinai to increase training techniques. Also I plan on using it with hanbo techniques. It seems like there are more techniques that can launch off from the handhold on the straight cane versus the crook of the cane. You might also check out too see if any new laws come out for your state in 2004. Good luck!
