Canis has been released

Considering one of these. Looks fantastic my purpose driven. I could also see myself carrying this out in the Smoky Mountains when I go for my weekly hike

Anybody have one of these in hand yet?

Taiwan Spydercos are usually so sweet, I would like to hear some first impressions.

I’m totally in for one. Been wanting another wharnie but the yojimbo handle shape doesn’t do it for me. This one looks like a win

I was born and raised in Gatlinburg. Back living here ATM

I received my Canis:

Not a fan of the jimping on the handle...the jimping on blade is fine. Action is smooth out of the box....easily deployed and drop-shut w/o being a finger guillotine. Weight is fine for carry, however it's a tad wide from blade to scale "sideways". Wider than a Para2 but still relatively easily pocketable. Handle is nicely contoured and very comfortable (except for the jimping noted above). A big fan of the blade shape and overall look of the knife. I like Spyderco's peel-ply carbon fiber, which on this knife is identical to that of my Sage 5. Overall, I like the knife enough to carry it frequently.....just not as enamored as I'd hoped to be.

(Kudos to DLT for their same day shipping & two days from them to me across the country!)

How’s the detent on this thing compared to PM2 or other US made compression lock model?
All the TW made models I’ve handled seem to have soft detent.

The detent on mine is just a touch lighter than that of my brand new PM2 S45VN.
Certainly not too light IMO.

Just unboxed my new Canis (Fragrance for Dogs, does anyone remember that SNL sketch?) yesterday and first impressions are very favorable!

I'd say it shares many characteristics of other Taiwan made Spydercos, so if you like that style/type you will probably like the Canis. Like I have both the Kapara and Smock out and have been coon-fingering them, and the detents, for example, are all very similar.

Feels great, like a very high quality knife. Shaving sharp out of the box, with solid lockup and excellent centering.

I'm "into" SD knives (have over a dozen of them made by Spyderco alone, most of them vintage/discontinued, and more made by others) but the Canis is not for me.

Even decided to pass on the Siren that I "thought" I'd want to buy when it became available but ultimately decide it wasn't for me either.

Still thinking about the Watu but the only reason to buy it for me is to pair it w/the Chowke to add to my Ethnic series sub-collection BUT that reason alone is NOT a good reason for me to buy it because it's relative expensive and also smaller than the 3.5-4" knives that I prefer. So, I'm still just "thinking" about it.
