Cannot achieve desired sharpness with scandi grind.

I have a Mora Companion which is a model with a slightly thicker blade. When I received the knife it would easily shave arm hairs, but I highly suspect that it might have arrived with a microbevel. When I resharpened the knife several times along the entire scandi grind, I noticed that I cannot achieve hair shaving sharpness with a DMT EF.

What do I do?

Moras I have came with what someone called a "scandi convex" edge. They sharpen like a convex edge would sharpen.
I put my carbon Robust on the edge pro set for 15 degrees and took the convex out and ground it into a scandi.
So, if you are sharpening it as a scandi you may not be hitting the edge consistantly. I like the edge on the Robust but left the others alone and sharpen as a convex and they get sharp to shave hair.

This is exactly what I suspect! Either the convex bevel needs to be flattened or maintained in it's convex state. I may need to find a very coarse stone to flatten out the convex characteristic.

Whisper21, if you do the "flattening" by hand, you will still very likely end up with a very slight convex bevel. In fact the coarser the stone, the more drag you have which decreases on subsequent finer stones, so same problem of some unavoidable rocking motion. But, there is no need for an absolute flat scandi (as long as it is in a reasonable range) and the edge actually holds up a bit better even. I like Norton Crystolon for scandis, or JWS.

Stop using a diamond hone, its basically tearing up the edge because the steel is not wear resistant enough and is ground very thin. Using a fine waterstone or wet/dry sandpaper will do much better.
