Hello all,

I'm having a bit of trouble getting an edge on my Kershaw Funxion. I am relatively new to sharpening knives, however, I am able to get a mirror edge on my ZT knives which are S35V and ELMAX. I also was able to get a hair whittling edge on my Kershaw Skyline which is an equivalent steel, JUST like the Funxion. I am using the Spyderco Sharpmaker medium -> fine -> ultra fine stones in that order and I have used the back bevel feature as well. No matter what I do it seems that I am forming a burr on one side that I can not remove by normal means. Any advice, I really want this knife to be sharp but I just can't! Thanks for reading!

EDIT: I don't know my steels! :grumpy:

The very basic idea of sharpening is you raise a burr on one side, then on the other. That shows you that you have reached the apex (the edge). Most likely your skyline has an angle that is more obtuse than 20 degrees per side, so you're probably hitting the shoulder and not the actual edge.

Take a sharpie marker and mark the whole edge. Do a pass on the sharpmaker. Look where the marker is removed and where it's not. Where the marker is removed is where you're sharpening. You probably need to decrease the angle of the bevel in order to get it sharp with the sharpmaker.

I will try this, thanks!
