Looking for small classic american pocket knife as gift/present for my friend. Would like to see some good polished bolster and bone scales. Please say what do you think about Buck's Canoe vs. Case's, and please show yours if you have any.
Thanks!

If you want bone, you will have a lot easier time finding that with Case. They offer many choices of bone coloration, and the bolster are highly polished...

I can't give an honest answer about the Buck Canoes, because I've never owned one, and I don't recall seeing them in bone.

I've collected Case knives for years. I have only had to deal with them on service issues a couple times, but they were great.
Likewise, Buck also has outstanding customer service

Case canoes are very nice. Boker makes a good one too for about the same price.

Bucks current Canoes are made in China, they are very fine made knives. Price runs about $15.00 for a bone handled one. I gifted one last year to my BIL and he loves it.
Case makes a fine Canoe made in the USA. Price will run you about 3 times that of the Buck. Either would make a very nice Christmas present, you just have to figure out which one fits your budget.

STDK pretty much summed it up.

I have a chinese Buck canoe and like it a lot, carries great.

I have one of the Buck Canoe's in bone but I haven't taken a picture of it yet. I'll try to get that done later. Meanwhile, here's the one I have in Stag. You might like this scale also.

Dave, thats a great looking canoe . Two years ago when Buck offered a slip lock twin set with a canoe and smaller single blade and imitation Mother of Pearl handles . I bought that for my father in law and he really likes them . The canoe to me is a attractive model . DM

I'd look around for one of the factory seconds on the special run of Moose Canoes that were done for A.G.Russell..s30v & 154cm blades & Mastodon Ivory handles. I borrowed this pic to show

I have one of the Buck stag canoes, made in China, to US standards. Great knife, no problems. I wouldn't be bashful about gifting one. For the price, you can give them two.

Scott, I didn't know Buck made that model using those steels and handle material . Jack, I didn't see those or I would have bought one . DM

I picked up the Stag Canoe from Smokey Mountain and then, not long after, was able to pick up a Tiny Toothpick to match it. Nice pieces. Look good on my Buck Shelf.

I finally got enough light to take a picture outside (on the porch). Here's Buck's Amber Jigged Bone Canoe. They also make a red Smooth Bone model, but I don't have one of them.

I don't have a Case Canoe to compare it with, but I do have several other Case's in with their version of the Amber Bone and I do believe that I like the Buck stuff better.

I second that. The AG Russell Canoe Moose is a different knife entirely from the standard Buck canoe. The blades are flat-ground, too. I have one of the AG Russell's and I love it. It's great having the premium steels on a pocket knife that can fit in the watch pocket of my jeans.

Also, the Buck AG Russell Canoe Moose is made in the USA!

Thank you all for answers and photos!
Looks like I will take one Case for the present, and two Buck's Canoes, Amber Jigged Bone and Stag - for myself.

You can't go wrong with those choices. Both companies make fine, reasonably priced knives that anyone should be proud to own or receive as a gift.

I never had the buck but I'm sure it's a fine knife. The case in carbon steel is real nice tho. I heard good things about the queen model to, if you want to spend a bit more($50-$60 range).either brand would make a fine gift.
