We used to go canoeing a bunch and loved it. More than a decade ago I whittled her a goofy little clock as a memento. When she went to Ukraine with the Peace Corps, she left it and some other prized possessions in my safe keeping. The clock stayed tucked up in my attic so long we both forgot about it. Until, some months back we found ourselves in a canoe again, and something in her head just clicked. "Hey, you still got my clock don't you?". . ."Ummm, what clock?". . . ."You better be joking, THE clock you big oaf, my canoe clock". . . . "Yes ma'am, yes ma'am, I still got it, put that paddle down, you're scaring me". :D

You didn't say so, but I'm guessing that's your daughter's canoe clock. Me like.

Daughter? Heh, heh, nope. ;) That's my hiking, camping, canoeing, road tripping, uh "buddy", when she wasn't in her 30s and I wasn't in my 40s. Never mind that crazy woman, how about that there whittlin'?

Sarge, very nice "whittlin", I would have thought the light colored wood could show blood stains better. I can see it's OLD, nowdays the woman take charge of the canoe guiding!

Dick, I've found out there's a local woodcarving/whittling club that meets here every Tuesday. Buddy of mine says they're a great bunch of folks. Can't be no harm in going and checking 'em out next Tuesday. Lord knows I'll be "well armed" with them Schrades.;)

Going to the Ukraine with the Peace Corps is dedication. I thought Bill mildly touched in the head for running off to Nepal, but I'll give Ukraine even wider eyes for sheer guts and determination.

Did I mention she's a crazy woman? Spent 2 1/2 years doing wildlife research in northern California, a lot of it deep out in the "boonies". While she was still in college, I taught her everything I could about field skills and woodcraft. She was a hoot in map and compass, and they say it's us men that won't admit we're lost. "Uh, hey babe, see that funny looking stump?". . . "Yeah, what about it?". . . . ."Oh nuthin', 'cept that makes the third time we've walked past it". :D

This thread reminds me that our planet has a number of women on it that are stark raving mad and I wouldn't have it any other way.

You should have seen my mom with her sunhat in the Orange Groove, picking oranges under a hot sun with the wasps and bees about her elbows, just because she refused to let Sunkist corp rip her off and give her pennies on the pound. People for miles around would drive to her house to pick up a bag of 'those good oranges' from her too. Can- do attitide all the time. When they had to rebuild a rental she was out there on the roof roofing with the construction workers. Only stayed back for the heavy stuff, like lifting a wall up.

Yup, some women are just plain crazy. This one's got a heart of gold, but head like a hammer for stubborn. Yup, head like a hammer, but I love her anyway. If we were lost at sea, and down to our last candy bar, I'd plumb lose my appetite, but she'd pitch an all out fit to make me eat the dayumed thing. Then we'd cut the silly thing in half and sit back laughing at each other while we ate it. Crazy dadburn woman, don't know why I put up with her, don't know why she puts up with me. Reckon that's what friends do.
