Yesterday went on a trip down a small stream my brother had scouted. One problem, the water was lower now , we got there it wasnt floatable. We tried anyways . Much of the trip was spent dragging the crafts through shallows. Heres the start.

We did discover a cave.

My sibling explored it briefly. Said it opened up in a large room thirty foot high with multiple passages. We will go back when better prepared.

Found a snapper in the creek.

The trip was a little spooky. We kept hearing a four wheeler, like he was trailing us. He would get close then play Johnny Cash music real loud. It was surreal hearing Folsom Prison Blues echoing through the forest while paddling a canoe. Downright creepy. When we get to the takeout spot , there were pig carcasses dangling from the bridge. I got the feeling the Hillbillies didnt want us there.

when i read "Pig carcass" the dueling banjos a' started a' playing in my head hahaha. Hillbillies make the world a strange place.

Interesting little trip. Glad you made it safely. I really like the Snapper.

The pig carcasses may serve a purpose. Maggots were dropping off into the water where they were quickly eaten by small fish. Maybe it is a redneck fish feeder.

Not enough water to float a canoe, spooky locals, and dead animal carcass’s and maggots waiting at your take out point,

…sounds like a great trip.

Still better than a day at work.

I'm pretty sure you should take what you experienced and then write a fictional novel. Has all the elements and you have the benefit of the emotions that could ring through your writing.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAL!

LOL! Couldn't help it...:D

Which one of y'all had the purdy.....:foot:

Couldn't resist.

Seriously - one of the great reasons to be prepared to defend you and your family if necessary.

Looks like a pretty cool trip. The canoe dragging wouldn't be as much fun all the time but exploring that cave would be absolutely cool.

Shoot...Ain't nut'n wrong with us HillBilly's :) As the song goes - A CountryBoy Can Survive - ;)

Nothing wrong with country folk - it's the extreme, like any case of extreme. ;)

So, it sounds like you had an *ahem* great time with those dead pig carcasses, yes?

Wow, I thought this thread was gonna be about portaging with your canoe.. I have to say that my childhood recollections of portaging heavy wooden canoes in the Canadian wilderness are kind of mixed too... But, at least there weren't Appalachian Americans trying to run me off...

Now, it's possible that there have been crazier, more awesome paragraphs written in a W&SS trip report over the years - but if there have, I have yet to see one. :D

Ken's right - time to turn that into a screenplay.

Sounds like a neat trip!

All the best,

It sounds like you had an interesting day to say the least. The snapper doesn't look like he's very happy....maybe he needed a hug. ;)

Great survival tip. Need to remember that one. I supose you could use it with some road kill as well. It would be concerning to be in that position with people trying to warn you off without confronting you directly. Could have been growing or cooking something. Maybe just living out there.

Sorry dip, I didn't mean to scare you guys. I just thought you'd like a little "man in black" on your float trip.
Later,
Iz
