Getting into the canoe pattern so far got a buck 389 and Clark cutlery ones. Looking to spend around 80 bucks only ones locally are case models which I didn't like. Saw some German brands but not sure of their quality. I plan to use this new canoe as a main carry knife. Id like USA, soligen or Sheffield made but any recommendations are appreciated.

I know what you said but Case Canoes are really great !
two of my favorites are :

Case WR XX Pocket Knife Amber Jigged Bone Canoe Cv Item #263 - (62131 Cv) - Length Closed: 3 5/8

= decent carbon steel with thin blades that cut really well and have lots of negative blade angle ; think Spyderco Ayoob .

AND

Case XX WR POCKET KNIFE JIGGED BUFFALO HORN CANOE, ITEM 65029, LENGTH CLOSED 3 5/8 INCH (BH2131 SS)

more than $ 100 but is a little jewel of a knife and stainless blades if you prefer . Buffalo Horn is black and very butch / masculine .

keep these Cases in mind man .

What was it that you did not like about the Case canoe? I think Case does a good job with that pattern.
Depends on the handle material, but there are some which can be purchased online for about $80.

Here's mine

I don't have any German made canoe knives; and I'm not aware of any German companies currently producing that pattern.
Rough Rider is made in China, but they make a pretty fair knife these days.

OP, if you mention the German brands you saw, it may be possible to get some general feedback on them.

Canoes seem to be a bit out of fashion these days. Rough Rider and relatives or Case are the easily available options

There's only Walmart an ace hardware here and the canoes in my price range had bad gaping and the other one had scale issues. Stinks my small town is very limited on knife selection.

I agree with Frank and Wowbagger. Case does some really nice Canoe patterns and would probably be where I would land in this situation.

I get it. I've had a rule from over the years that I always buy Case in-person, which was easy for me, and assured I get a good one - until my local shop closed, that is. EX2131 SS, probably cost more, cannot remember how much I paid there. *back spring is flush open and closed. Maybe contact an online dealer when you find one you like and ask them to inspect it before you place the order.

I cannot speak to more than the Boker I own. Beer Barrel Canoe is nice, if they are available. Mine was less than $80 on the auction site, but four years ago. If I were to carry it every day, it would be in a slip, and care for it well. Or go for other cover materials as a primary EDC (?).

Gary, 5K Qs 5K Qs , provided fine advice back when I had Qs (questions).

There is only one canoe on my shelf, the Buck 389, an import that sold at Walmart for about six bucks. The pattern hasn’t really captured my fancy. If it ever did, I would look first to Rough Rider, which has a variety of finishes. Every few months (or so it seems) 5K Qs comes up with a beautifull-photographed new acquisition from RR. Those are often made as well as a Case, sometimes better.

Here's a link to a thread with almost 300 posts dealing with the canoe pattern. Maybe you can get some ideas there about various brands. (Unfortunately, in an older thread like that one, there tend to be lots of missing photos.)

I purchase all my knives online. I buy Case knives from Case "Master dealers", and have not had any issues with any of the knives I've purchased. In my opinion, the newer Case knives have better fit and finish than the ones made 20 years ago. By using one of the master dealers, you are more likely to get current stock.

I purchase all my knives online.

I do to .

OP : If you speak to the vender over the phone you can request that they pull some out of boxes and varify there are no issues in areas that bother you .
I have done this a number of times .👌👍
The down side is they probably will not give you free shipping at their prescribed $ amount for free shipping ; that is just if you order on line .
