Hi,

Well, I've spent the last year or so building my collection of knives for use in camping and canoeing, and I've just returned from a great three day trip in northwestern Ontario with my son during which I was able to use them in the field :)

I have found this forum very helpful as a resource to help guide my selection. How can you tell I was influenced by Buzzbait?

Of course, many production and custom knives would perform just fine... I found (and ordered) pieces that had good reputations functionally, and pleased my eye.

Here's a "group photo", taken on a background of some interesting moss that I found (Top to bottom: Ed Caffrey EBK1, Dozier Wilderness, Dozier Small Folding Hunter, Fred Perrin "Acier" [I use it as a neck knife...nice to have when paddling]) :

Thank you to the folks here and to the forum administrators for such a useful resource!

Nice group of knives. Look's like you had your cutting needs covered. Speaking of canoe trips, I friend of mind went on a trip along the boundry waters. He is a knife nut also. He was pondering for months on which knives to take. He finally decided and after they were dropped at their starting point, going through his gear he realized he forgot his belt. To make a long story short, he ended up using his Swiss Army knife most of the trip.

I'm with everyone else -- damn those are some beautiful Doziers. :D

Nice knives!

What river? I have done the Missinaibi, from Mattice to Moose river crossing.

We were canoeing on a small lake called Raynar lake. Very quiet, nobody around... took 3 portages to get to our final lake, which tends to discourage people from the trip. Ended up seeing a black bear, moose, as well as lots of deer, bald eagles, and a couple of turtles. It was a great break from work!

Thanks everyone for the feedback :) I'm afraid the Doziers aren't up for sale. I had to wait too long for them to be made! :D

Woohoo!!! There are few things in life better than a pair of stag handled Doziers!!! That folder is just too beautiful for words. I am supremely envious.

I like the Caffrey too. I also have an EBK. The handle is a bit small for my long fingers, but the blade is simply wicked.

Since no one else asked, tell us how that Wilderness performed.....I have 2 Doziers, General Utility and PGK. They are truely wonderful blades.

I've been too cheap to fork up the $$$ for one of his stags, but they are as nice as it gets....

Hi,

The Wilderness was very nice... I used it as well as the EBK1 for making feather sticks as kindling for the fire. The Wilderness did not feel too big or bulky and was able to shave thin strips of wood very well. It particularly handled the heavier tasks well such as splitting off small strips of kindling.

There wasn't much need for food prep, as we used a lot of dried food... easier to portage than fresh fruits and vegetables, which wouldn't last long anyways.

I don't think I would want anything bigger as a camp knife. My wife has a Dozier ProGuide as a camp knife, which I like very much as well. I've sort of grown attached to the heftiness of the Wilderness, however.

Thanks Mike.....I think a Wilderness will be somewhere in my future. Whether or not it will be stag I don't know. Enjoy yours and use it well....
