I was looking into buying the Canon SD300, and wanted to see if any of you guys had it and what you thought. The reviews seem pretty good, but what worries me is the purple fringing and the soft edges. Also if someone has it can they please give me a more realistic review of the battery life.

Thank you

I hadn't heard that the Canon SD300 was known for any more chromatic aberration than any other camera in its price range. I wouldn't let purple fringing deter me from buying this camera if all its other features fit what you are looking for - after all, it's a Canon and is in one of their most popular lines. There are ways to correct it using the various software packages that are available too.

I don't personally like the SD300 because of its small size. I know it's a selling point for some foiks who want a high quality "shirt pocket" camera but it's just too small for my big clumsy hands. :( I bought a Canon A95 instead. :)

I read some reviews as well. I have a Canon PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph I'm happy with. The essence of the reviews I read was, if you don't need the extra mega-pixel of resolution, stick with the SD200. I'm sticking with what I have.

Digital? In addition to a Nikon, a Toshiba, and a Sony, I have a Pentax Optio-S (about the same size as the SD300, but "sharper" edges), a Canon SD-100, a Canon 10D with "the works", and a Canon SD-300.

The Canon SD-300 comes with me about 90% of the time. Love it!

(but, yes, if you have big, chubby fingers something slightly larger may be called for.)
