Can't add an avatar

It might be staring me in the face, but for the life of me I can't get an avatar added to my profile. Please help.

When I go to "Settings" on the top then "Settings" on the left there is an option to "edit avatar" When I click on that I get this:

No Avatar Specified
Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.
Do not use an avatarNote: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it.




Nothing I have tried will allow me to remove or uncheck the "do not use an avatar" option. I'm not computer illiterate, but I just don't get it.

I believe it is because you aren't a paid member, I think you have to have a paying membership

That's right. Any paid membership will get you an avatar and signature line, and a Gold will allow you to post in the Exchange.

Now, to update your user group so that your name displays correctly:

Click on Settings at the tippy-top of the screen (on the right, just to the left of Log Out) to go to your user page/settings, and then look to the column on the left:

3rd box down, My Settings ->

2nd subheading, My Account ->

3rd choice, Permission Groups

Clicking on Permission Groups will take you to a page with your available "groups." Select your highest (paid) level by selecting its "Identify me as a member of this group" radio button and then clicking "Update Display Group."
