I can't carry a bali with me for a while now.:( Schools starting and I am so use to haveing it in my pocket. I sure hope my habits dont accidently put it in my pocket on my way to school. I think I might put all my balis in a drawer instead around my room so I dont pick it up and put it in my pocket without noticeing it. I think some of you people out there are having this problem too. What are you guys going to do to make sure you dont accidently bring it to school because of the habit you got over the summer?

ahhh... i remember the days when i wasn't allowed to carry a blade to high school...

that's tough luck man. now that i'm off to college, i don't have to worry too much about it. that's all because i'm going to a college for environmental science. half of my classes are in the woods. most of the students (females included, sadly) are the burly, lumberjack type. the college has a woodsman team, where guys compete with another, seeing who can chop down trees fastest and stuff. someone without a knife is as out of place as an eunich in a brothel.

 don't worry, your knife will be waiting for you at home after school is over. don't try anything stupid like sneaking it in. Murphys law my friend, anything that can go wrong can, and will at the worst possible time. anywho...

chill

I wouldn't ever bring my knife with me on purpuse to school. I'm not that dumb.:D What college are you going to that allows you to bring a knife with you?:D

I didn't think you were that dumb.;) it's just that sometimes that urge is so strong, an you forget.

I'm going to Paul Smith's College. Located 30 mins NORTH of Lake Placid, it sits comfortably among the pines of upper New York State. Smack dab in the middle of nowhere.

Theres no big deal about bladed things up there. This college has a few students who are wild mountain men (and, ugh, women). These guys brinh their trusty axe with them too.

A knife is no biggie at this school where being prepared for some of these classes does not mean bringing a pen and paper, it means bringing your chainsaw and chaps.:D

putting my belt on today, I almost grabbed my 42's and slid them on. I've actually had dreams about accidentally wearing them to school and getting caught ;)

But normally (now) I carry some blades on me, just all under 2.5" (which is the rule). Which includes the quite-hard-to-find 5 holed keychain bali (which I can do about every move with but the Y2K roll-over)

I was very lucky back in the school dayz, I carried a spyderco with me everywhere. I once was sent to the office for something and I told the Student Councelor I had a pocket knife with me. She looked at me and smiled, then she asked why, and I was honest when I replied "for wood shop and production systems" however I did not ever use it, she told me not to show it to anyone else. If I were in school now I would do differently however, I had special circumstances, for I was very well known by the school staff and was in VERY good spirits with all of them.

Bottom line, be nice to your school staffmembers they are good people who usually want to help. If you give them something to worry about they will treat you accordingly.

I go to school at a Maritime Academy where we learn all kinds of things like Marlinspike and such. A knife in most cases is a requirement, I have been written up for showing up to a watch without a knife. To bad its in California so I can't really use my new BM42s for EDC.

I agree with 7Cain. I graduated from high school in '97. Back then, as long as you didn't do anything silly with your knife, you could bring it to school. I've pulled out simple folders in front of many of my teachers, but only when I needed to use it. I once pulled out a simple swiss army knife in the school library to screw a computer case back on. The librarian saw it and approached me. "That's nice," he said, "but HERE'S a knife". He whipped out a spyderco folder. Man, I miss high school. :D Although I never carried a balisong onto school grounds. I was only interested in manipulating it, so it had no place at school. Nowadays, I carry my two 42's everywhere I go. Work, stores, bars, and even a cop shop or two. I think it comes down to your attitude and actions. As long as you act cool about things, there is rarely a reason to search someone.

Obviously schools of all types have become extremely hyper-vigilant about what can, and cannot come on school grounds...no matter how "nice-nice" you have been in the past. Suggestion.., leave 'em at home if you want to keep 'em.

I've worked and consulted in the "Educational Domain" for a long time.

If you want to bring a knife to school make it a Swiss Army knife with enough attachements to do maintenance tasks for the supervisoral staff :) ...-OR-...bring only custom pieces, and attempt to bring them to somewhere I'm working at the time so I can attend the confiscation and be "helpful" :p <~~ teasing!

Leave 'em at home when there is risk!! Not worth losing something you worked hard for..., and certainly not worth creating the misconception that you are some sort of "thug" among those who don't understand the knife as a "tool". They will be waiting for you for "breaks" during homework.

"Hunters seek what they [WANT].., Seekers hunt what they [NEED]"

I've carefully studied that school knife laws, and in concordance with them, I carry:
a 2" neck knife
one little pocket knife/lighter thing
a kubotan w/1.5" knife inside
a 2" bladed bali
this shotgun shell knife thing

and yes, there is a seperate use for all of them.

you have NO idea how great it is to be able to flip a bali during a stressful day at school
