Hi,
Today I received a laguiole knife from my wife. I did some research
on it and I think it is a knock-off.
It has France carved in the blade on one side and 12c27 sandvik
on the other. The word laguiole is stamped on the blade, not
embossed. It also doesn't have the shepherds cross. It has the
fly and carving on the spine. There is also no brass at the end
of the knife. My main problem is that it came in the opened position
and I can't close it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Pieman

By now you may have discovered the mechanism but if not, just lift up near the end of the blade, the back side spine becomes a latch that locks the blade into place, should be a pin it snares sort of, just lift up on the fly and that will allow the blade to close.

Thanks Gary!
I was out of town for a couple of days.
Pieman, try what Gary posted. That should do it.

I am going to move this to the Traditional Knives Forum.

I have one myself and this is quite normal. You just have to apply more pressure when closing the knife. They're usually not made to have the spring "lifted" up to close the knife (although you could do that). The reason its harder to close is that the way the blade and spring are ground is to create more resisitence to closing on accident (almost like a lockblade, but not really a lockblade!!)
