So I can't decide between a BK-7 or BK-9. I am eventually gonna get both but which should I get first?

heres my thoughts on both. The bk7 "combat utility" is a fighting blade that can kick the crap out of your enemy, but mostly the woods because seriously who knife fights anymore? :D The 9 is a chopper, it can do fine work (just ask trade) but its meant for making brush thats in your way into sawdust. If you wont be chopping alot id say go with the 7, but if your gonna chop the 9 all the way to the bank

Buy the BK2 have us all reeling from your moral dilemma and when you have spit the gathering between 7's and 9's arrive just before tensions escalate to violence reveal to us that you have chosen neither!

I have been drinking again. But seriously get the 2 it's the most all around blade and nice to understand which Becker advancement you wish to move to.

I kinda look at it like this.

The BK2 is the do everything knife, but its a bit short, stubby, and heavy.

The BK7 is a pretty good all-rounder. Its a bit thinner and lighter, and longer. Its kinda like the modern interpretation of the KaBar USMC. Some people love it, others find no use for it. I would say numbers wise, those people are more common (the ones that don't see as MUCH need for it). YMMV.

The BK9 is the camp knife, the chopper, and the big task knife. I should have mine in a bit, and I'll be sure to let everyone know how I like it.

damn.

What he said. See my sig logo and my Beckerhead number.

get the 9. you'll then save your money for a long time, and probably buy a 2 next, and a 14 or 11.

for me, buying the 7 was ... last. though i have an example out for ready use, i'll often grab a 5 first for similar duty.

though now i have a KaBar 9 for daily use, i might use my 4 less (though not much). gotta fix the edge on the 9 though, it's not convexed.

buy the 9 :> it's badass.

I personally chose the 7 as an all rounder, stand alone knife. Otherwise I carry a 4" bladed belt knife with one of my machetes on my pack. So for my needs the 7 made more sense.

I actually just convexed my 9. Is indeed a force to be reckoned with. It chops almost as well as my hatchet in most tasks, and can do detail work. I got the remora for the 9 sheath, for really detailed work. The extra 20 bucks is worth it imho.

The 7 is... An everything knife. A more aggressive bowie, less weight and length, more nimble in the hand. But loses out on the things 'I' will use it for. If you were a soldier and wanted a fixed EDC, go for the 7. If you want a camp knife and large tasks knife, the 9. And if you want a knife that will cut through a tank and laugh, the 2.

I understand this approach. But damn, after looking at this thread, I might have to get a 9 after all.:D

I started out with the BK2, and I have a BK9 in the mail. I have a sneaking suspicion that once the drop tweener comes out, I'll be carrying that, and the BK9 when I'm out and about instead.

For what I do, there is no reason I can't bring 2 or more blades with me, which kinda makes the all-rounders a bit redundant (still fun though :D).

Ok I'll say it ... "BOTH" :D

Cann't go wrong with either brother.

Remember .... "resistance is futile" - Darth Vader (LOL)

Get the 7 first. You'll fall in love with the 7 and when you're ready to get the 9 you'll still have love for the 7 plus love for the 9
