hey there i was wondering which of the following is better and if there are any better suggestions sorry im new to this but the infomation here is amazing and detailed anyways here is goes SOG Tomcat II , Spyderco Delica 4 , CRKT Prowler , Buck Alpha Hunter, Folding 277 Knife , SPYDERCO Poliwog there all price around the same and they all seem to be good but i cant seem to choose it for everyday carry i want it durable enought to give to my kids when there older . price isnt really a concern but it need to be of excellent quality and a folder thx any help is much apprecated

Tomcat is around $110 as well as Poliwog (As for the Tomcat - in short time there should be new version with better steel (tomcat 3)...)
Buck alpha hunter folder around $50
Delica is about $45
Prowler about $35

The prices aren't the same...
(but if you can get Tomcat or Poliwog for the Endura's price get them :))

In low price range I would take Camillus CUDA EDC or maybe Spyderco Delica/Endura if you don't mind plastic handles (or you can get SS version :)) Or if you want it cheap check Spyderco Byrd line. Or maybe Kershaw Leek if you don't mind assisted opening. Or G10 S30V Leek but it is around $80
In higher price range you can try e.g. Benchmade Opportunist, Spyderco Police, Spyderco Manix, Benchmade 710 or 720
In fact there are plenty of knives and if you go with good brand (BM, Spyderco, Kershaw, Camillus, Harsey, Microtech, MOD, SOG, Buck, Fallkniven to name some (and Gerber, CRKT and Coldsteel), avoid names from the gun world (like Smith and Wesson) as they usually make crap (maybe except HK made by Benchmade)) you (usually :)) get quality knife

I don't know about the SOG Tomcat II, but in general I don't care much for SOG knives.
I think they're a bit expensive for what you get.

I don't like the CRKT Prowler than much because it's a liner-lock, which is my least preferred locking method.
And the AUS-6 is not all that great when it comes to edge-retention.

The Spyderco Polywog seems like a neat little knife, but it's just too small for me.

The Buck Alpha Hunter is nice but, again, it uses a liner-lock.
Not to mention the fact that it is a huge and heavy knife (even heavier than the Buck 110).

So that leaves the Delica 4.
But even the D4 is a little on the small side for my taste, so I would recommend the Endura 4 instead.

Some other recommendations:
Benchmade 551 or 550 Griptilian for a nice general utility folder.

Spyderco Pacific Salt if you need something light-weight and don't mind a knife made in Japan.

Alaskan Guide Buck 110 from Cabelas if you don't mind a little bit of weight and no pocket-clip.
This is my current EDC and it is very nice.
Top-notch blade-steel on an American classic!

Buck Custom Shop 110 if you don't mind waiting about 6-8 weeks.
This is one that I'm waiting for right now.

Chris Reeve Sebenza if you've got money to burn and the desire to join a cult.:D

Good luck,
Allen.

thanks heeps for the help um they all seem to have differnent blade materials whats the best one

zeping - they're pretty different from each other!

Delica 4 for example is a slim, light knife with FRN handles. (Fiberglass reinforced nylon) The Buck 277 is huge in comparison! MUCH heavier, thick - doesn't carry easily in a pocket; comes with a leather sheath. More "traditional" than the Delica 4, maybe. (Except that the Buck has a liner lock and the Delica 4 is a lockback design.)

Tomcat is one of SOG's better knives, but as another poster said - you pay high for what you get. I would eliminate the Tomcat II and the Prowler from your list. The bladesteel - you might want to check on this - I'm pretty sure is AUS-6 in each of those. Reasonable steel but not as good as the VG-10 in the Delica 4 and the 154CM in the Buck.

From your list, I'd go with the Delica 4 or Buck 277 - they are so different from each other. Have you handled them? That should help you make up your mind. ;) The Delica weighs about 3 oz and the Buck about half a pound.

Hope this is of some help.

yer it now either the delica 4 or BENCHMADE Warren Osborne Design Opportunist the buck really is to heavy and bulky to carry everyday the delica 4 is VG-10 and the benchmark is S30V if you got any other suggestion let me knw any and i mean any help is apprecated thx for all the advice im grateful and just out of curosity which is the best metal 154 cm , vg-10 ATS-34 or s30v

They are all premium, high quality stainless steels.

You will get a lot of different opinions once you get into detailed specifics, but I think most everyone would agree that they are all excellent blade steels.
(ATS-34 and 154CM are extremely similar, by the way. Almost identical.)

Buck CM154 HTreated by Boss (who also HTreat 75% of all custom knives) is the best on my opiniom from what you just listed.

Thanks, Vassili.

I'd be the first to say this is not the best knife , but I do have a CRKT Prowler and I like it a lot and carry it more than any of my other blades. It is a very sturdy knife and will not let you down!!!

Get the Delica!!! It is an awesome knife!! I happen to think CRK&T knives are NOT of the best quality either.
