Ok, we'll I can only afford one and I can't seem to see a huge difference in the milli, and the para 2.is there a big difference between the 2?frm what my understanding is the military has a longer blade an that's pretty much it. I seen the array of steels, locks. But in honest opinions is the p2 more of the winner? I like longer stouter blades...there's only a $jackson difference. Thanks Phil. Oh I did use the search and couldn't find the results to my question...

The Military has a longer blade, longer handle, Walker linerlock and is right-hand tip down carry only. The Para 2 has a shorter blade (although it is longer than the original Paramilitary), shorter handle, compression lock, larger lanyard hole and has four way clip positioning. Personally, I've never really warmed up to the comp lock, but a lot of people like it. I also prefer tip down carry, so the lack of 4way on the Military doesn't bother me, but other folks just have to have tip up. If you are one of them, stick to the Para 2.

There is currently a Para 2 shortage due to production not keeping up with demand, so prices are inflated and selection is diminished. If you look around, you see used Para 2's selling in excess of what new ones used to cost, and some new Para 2's are selling for a $100+ premium over the former street price. You can get a new Military for $116 shipped, so if value factors in to your analysis, that may be the way to go.

Lets take a look at this....

Para 2:
)Compression lock
)G10
)S30V
)Tip up/tip down

length overall 8.281 " (210 mm)
blade length 3.438 " (87 mm)
blade steel CPM S30V
length closed 4.812 " (122 mm)
cutting edge 3.078 " (78 mm)
weight 3.75 oz. (106 g)
blade thickness .141 " (3.5 mm)
handle material G-10

Military:
)Liner lock
)S30
)G10
)Tip down

length overall 9.5" (241 mm)
blade length. 4" (102 mm)
blade steel CPM S30V
length closed 5.5" (140 mm)
cutting edge 3.687" (94 mm)
weight 4.2 oz (120 g)
blade thickness .156" (4 mm)
handle material G-10
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over all length:
)Para 2: 8.281"
)Millitary: 9.5"

I think for self defense get the milltary, for utility get a para 2, the reason for this is, the millitary isn't exactly sheeple friendly;) the difference is 1.22"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blade length
)para 2: 3.438"
)milltary: 4"

I think this comes down to you're own preferences, but it has been proven that there tip is strong enough by destruction tests:grumpy: the difference is .562"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

S30V:
)para 2: S30V
)millitary: S30V

I'm not really good at explaining this stuff so here:D
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/398123-S30V-your-conclusions/page2

Same steel so not much to compare.....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Closed length:
)para 2: 4.812"
)milltary: 5.5"

Not much to talk about here....all there to say is the military will fill a larger space in your pocket. The difference is .688"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Length of cutting edge:
)Para2: 3.078"
)Military: 3.687"

Again not a hole lot o talk about...the millitary will give you slightly more cutting ability but only .607"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weight in oz:
)Para 2: 3.75 oz
)Millitary: 4.2 oz

Once again not much....the para 2 is .45 oz lighter, making it a little bit more edc friendly but the military still comes in at a good weigh .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blade thickness:
)para 2: .141"
)millitary: .156"

Again this totally depends on your preference.....the difference is .015"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Handle materal:
)para 2: g10
)Millitary: g10

The same stuff, strong as ever and black.....not much more to say about that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clip carry options:
)para 2: tip up/tip down - left or right hand
)millitary: tip down - right hand

This is where for me the para 2 gets the advantage.....but again this is up to your personal preferences.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally my conclusion:

For a pistol back up:
The military: longer blade and handle, and a stronger tip.

For edc:
If you like a bigger knife get the military if you don't mind something a little bit smaller get the para 2. Still keep in mind the military isn't very sheeple friendly.....

My bottom line:
I'd buy the para 2 because I wouldn't get the stare down from my neighbors
And because I like the design, and take what iv said with a grain of salt, I don't own either of these knives, but I have handled them

For you:
Iv said it a bunch but its up to you which you think is better!

Ok I hope this helps!!!!

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to eat breakfast:D:D:D!!!!!!!!!

Cheers!

Oh and I forgot to mention iv heard the military's screws are easy to strip.....

Love em both, but I can notice the Mili in my pocket whereas the PM2 rides a lot smoother in the pocket due to the size and I can hardly tell its there. Good thing is you cannot mke a bad decision which ever you decide. To me, they both represnt the very best that spyderco has to offer with respect to design and functionality.

I have yet to get a mili, but I have numerous PM2s. I personally would vote for the PM2 as it is big enough for everything I have needed it for.

I have had 3 different Paramilitary 2's (2 regular one Sprint). I have since sold them all. The one knife I have left is a Military. This knife will be with me for life. I truly feel the Para and the Military are 2 totally different knives.

I have 2 Millies and should carry them from often than I do.

I had a Para 1 that I traded bc there were a few things I didn't like about it. Handle shape and blade length mainly.

I'm getting my 1st PM 2 today so I'll start a new post or add to this 1 later.

A soldier once took down an enemy helicopter simply by brandishing his Spyderco Military, instilling both fear and wonder in the heart of the enemy pilot.

Most of the Berlin wall was dismantled by two men, one equipped with a Spyderco Military, the other equipped with a left handed Spyderco Military.

One man, upon hearing the phrase "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." proceeded to use his Spyderco Military to decimate the bush. He preferred three in the hand.
